Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia seeks an adjunct instructor to teach Introductory Microbiology. This course is designed to provide the student with a foundation in basic microbiology with emphasis on infectious diseases. The curriculum covers the characteristics of pathogenic microorganisms along with considerations of epidemiology, chemotherapeutic agents, mechanisms of host defense and the host-parasite relationship. Topics include microbial diversity, microbial cell biology, microbial genetics, interactions and impact of microorganisms and humans, microorganisms and human disease. Laboratory exercises support lecture concepts. The successful applicant will be expected to deliver course materials using appropriate techniques to provide students with the knowledge needed to achieve the stated learning outcomes for the course.

The minimum of a master’s degree is required.  If the master’s degree is not in Microbiology, a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Microbiology is required. A doctorate in Microbiology is preferred. Two years prior teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred. The ability to make presentations using advanced media technology, such as distance learning and online learning applications, is preferred.
