Job Description:                                 FOOD SERVICE WORKER

 

Department:                                        Dietary

 

Responsible To:                                  Dietary Supervisor

 

Education/Training:                            High School Diploma/GED preferred. 

 

Physical Requirement:                       Requires stooping, kneeling, reaching and continuous standing for 8 hours daily.  Must be able to lift 30lbs or more; Must be able to push/pull 50lbs or more. Requires handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and frequent mental/visual strain and the ability to work with close supervision and in stressful situations; the ability to handle all situations with emotional stability.

 

Environmental Condition:                 Primarily work inside (99% of time) and may experience the following: stress, noise, vibrations, dust and occasional temperature extremes.

 

Occupational Exposure:                    Category III = Job involves tasks or procedures that have no exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.

Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Delivers food transports carts to patient floors for meals. Returns patient carts with soiled dishes and trays to kitchen, removes and scrapes dishes and trays.
  2. Checks the utility room on the patient floors for soiled trays before returning with cart.
  3. Removes and scrapes cafeteria trays throughout meal periods and ensures the tray return belt is clear. Washes all dishes and pots in cafeteria and kitchen based on guidelines and standards set by Serve Safe and department.
  4. Sweeps and mops the floors of main kitchen and dish room; cleans main kitchen area and dish room at the end of each shift.  Cleans and sanitizes carts, rolling tables and trashcans. Follows cleaning check list for area on a daily basis.
  5. Makes coffee for patient service as needed, cleans and services coffee urn. Place ice on food carts for noon and evening meal service.
  6. Properly disposes of all food waste from trays or preparation area through garbage disposal. Properly disposes of all trash and card board boxes in compactor/dumpster.
  7. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served (adolescent, adult and geriatric).
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of operating dishwasher, verifying temperatures of wash and rinse cycle. Removes racks of clean dishes and distributes dishes, trays, glasses and utensils to cafeteria or patient service area. Soaks glassware, silverware, and coffee urns to remove stains.
  9. Correctly sets up dish room for each shift.  Helps tray line with preparation and service of designated items.  Sweeps, scrubs and mops cafeteria floor based on posted work schedule.
  10. Performs other job related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
