Job Description

Vein Clinics of America (VCA) is seeking a licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) to serve as a “physician extender” for our clinic in Overland Park, KS

In this role, the Nurse Practitioner will consult with patients regarding an appropriate course of treatment for the patient’s varicose veins and/or venous insufficiency.  This course of treatment might include the ultrasound guided Injections or endovenous laser treatments (EVLT) performed by the physician and/or the sclerotherapy, performed by the Nurse Practitioner, to treat surface veins.  Also in this role, the Nurse Practitioner will assist in practice development through professional networking and by participating in physician/practice/patient education activities, i.e. Lunch and Learns.

This position will require a significant level of independence and autonomy.  The Nurse Practitioner will be developing a semi-independent “practice within a practice” while working in partnership with the VCA physician.  This is an exciting opportunity that will allow the Nurse Practitioner to develop and hone a specialized set of skills, utilizing the safer, more effective and minimally invasive, treatment options that are available to patients today.

RESPONSIBILITIES in this position will include the following:

  • Consult with patients regarding an appropriate course of treatment.

  • Assist the physician, as needed, in performing designated procedures.

  • Respond to patient telephone calls regarding medical conditions and emergencies.

  • Evaluate the patient’s treatment plan on an ongoing basis.

  • Educate patients and/or their families about preventative care, medical issues and the use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.

  • Maintain the Emergency Drug Box; order and maintain the proper inventory of medical supplies; and insure treatment rooms are stocked appropriately.

  • Track and document the effectiveness of treatment through photos and notes.

  • Insure that patient records are accurate and complete including notes to appropriately document patient’s treatment and activity.  Facilitate evaluation of records by physicians, peers and Quality and Standards according to established protocols; monitor and enforce all OSHA policies and guidelines as directed; insure compliance with policies and procedures required for Quality Assurance; act in compliance with the legal rules and regulations that apply to this position.

  • Maintain the highest skill level for the safest and most effective delivery of treatment according to VCA accepted clinical guidelines.

  • Provide the highest level of customer service and promote patient satisfaction.

  • Participate in the physician’s practice building activities along with and independent of the physician, the Medical Liaison, and other members of the staff.  These might include Lunch and Learns and other patient and peer education initiatives; networking events; referral programs.

  • Develop strong relationships with co-workers and other clinic staff, providing support as needed.   Other duties may be assigned.

This is a Monday through Friday position with scheduled hours between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

The position will require six weeks of training.  Training will not take place at home clinic but at a different clinic within MD or VA.
