Director of Finance – Helena, AR

 

 

About KIPP Delta Public Schools:

 

The mission of KIPP Delta Public Schools is to create and support schools that empower students from underserved communities to develop the knowledge, skills, and character traits necessary to pursue a college education and a life of value, joy, and integrity.

 

We are a growing network of public schools offering a free, college-preparatory education to children in the Arkansas Delta. Across our four schools in Helena and Blytheville, we currently serve over 1,120 students and 80 alumni.

 

 

Position Overview:

 

The Director of Finance will provide senior leadership for all financial functions and business operations within KIPP Delta Public Schools. In doing so, the Director of Finance will be charged with executing on the strategic financial vision for our growing organization and managing staff to sustained efficacy in all aspects of finance and accounting.

 

The Director of Finance must possess an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to rapidly and creatively adjust plans based on the changing needs of our schools and our fluid plans for growth. As such, the Director of Finance must have an eye for innovative financing and a drive to relentlessly navigate the restrictions placed on various streams of revenue in order to best serve our schools.

 

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Finance will play a critical role in ensuring that our schools are equipped with the financial resources to ensure that all students learn, grow, and achieve transformative life outcomes.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Execute on the strategic financial vision for KIPP Delta Public Schools:

Maintain a nuanced understanding of laws and regulations pertaining to school finance and business operations in Arkansas

Develop and maintain pro-forma financial models that will inform decision making by school and regional leaders

Serve as a thought-partner to school and regional leaders in all aspects of financial decision making through strong financial reporting and analysis

Communicate, manage, and revise organizational-wide fiscal policies and procedures

 

Manage staff to sustained efficacy in all accounting practices:

Direct the preparation of reports to meet the compliance needs of government agencies, grants, and bank covenants

Manage accounting staff responsible for accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and petty cash

Supervise organizational-wide accounting practices to ensure continuous compliance in all aspects of financial reporting

Support Office Managers with the training, tools, and supervision needed to effectively manage school-level financial operations

Manage accounting staff to successfully prepare for organizational audits performed by independent financial auditors

Support strong grant management

 

Ensure that KIPP Delta Public Schools maintains continuous financial health:

Manage the annual budgeting process, serving as financial expert and focal point for discussions involving a variety of stakeholders

Direct all aspects of banking and investing, which will include financing and cash management

Represent KIPP Delta to our financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, and auditors

Prepare and review all monthly financial reporting materials and effectively communicate these metrics to the Board of Directors, as well as school and regional leaders

Serve as the staff lead on the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors

Skills/Requirements

 

Candidate Profile:

 

A Director of Finance candidate must possess:

A Bachelor’s degree in a finance, business administration, or accounting related field

Excellent financial modeling skills, which includes an aptitude for an advanced functions within MS Excel

Proficiency in using accounting software

Experience and comfort with fund accounting

The ability to rapidly develop, adjust, and communicate financial models that guide organizational-wide decision making

The ability to receive and act upon adjusting feedback

A commitment to continually developing the character strengths of grit, zest, optimism, self-control, social intelligence, gratitude, and curiosity in all students and one’s self

 

A Director of Finance candidate will ideally possess:

A Master’s degree in finance, business administration, or accounting related field

Significant experience (7+ years) serving in a management role such as CFO, Director of Finance, Comptroller, or equivalent
