Job Description

Friends University has an opening for a groundskeeper/general maintenance worker.  This position will perform grounds keeping task including mowing, trimming, edging, applying pesticides, planting landscape materials, and other basic grounds tasks.  Seasonally, this position will transfer to the maintenance department to help with event setup, furniture moving, and basic preventative maintenance such as changing filters and equipment lubrication. 

Work hours are Monday-Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm, but may be seasonally adjusted.   Some overtime/weekend hours will be required.

Skills/Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required.  

Two years’ experience in grounds or related environment required to include knowledge of zero turning radius mowers, lawn tractors, gas-powered edger’s and trimmers, lawn vacuum, hedge trimmers, utility vehicle, and various hand tools.  General maintenance experience is desired; basic mechanical experience needed. 

Must be able to work in all weather conditions and withstand extreme hot and cold working conditions, loud noise environments, lift up to 100 pounds, walk and/or stand for long periods of time, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.  Position also requires work in high, precarious places and exposure to noxious odors.

A valid driver’s license is required for this position.  A motor vehicle report will be run to verify insurability and to become an approved driver by the University’s insurance carrier.
