Job Description

Georgia Military College announces a full-time opening for a Benefits Administrator. Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, this position manages all functions associated with the administration of Georgia Military College’s employee benefit programs. This position coordinates and manages all aspects of employee benefits, to include, but not limited to: health insurance, dental, vision, long term disability insurance (LTD), basic and voluntary life insurance, flexible spending account plans, and employee assistance program (EAP), Worker’s Compensation, the Family and Medical Leave Act, as well as management of the Teacher’s Retirement System and Public School Employee Retirement System’s defined benefit retirement program. This position will also coordinate open enrollment and will be the liaison between the State Health Benefits Program and the State Personnel Administration office to relay information from the agency to the employees on plan updates and changes.  The Benefits Administrator will fully engage with the operation of HR Information System (ADP), benefits section, and it is imperative that they maintain positive relationships with all internal and external customers. The position is part of the HR core management/administrative team. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.


  • A high school diploma/GED equivalent is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field and five to seven years of progressive professional experience in the management of an employee benefits programs is preferred. Experience with developing and implementing employee benefit programs and human resources information systems, preferably in a large and complex organization.
  • CEBS certification is strongly preferred; PHR/SPHR/GPHR certification is desirable.
  • Experience with or working knowledge of at least one complex human resources and payroll computer based system (HRIS), preferably the ADP Workforce Now HR Management System is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications, data query tools, word processing software, electronic mail and internet search tools is required. Knowledge of and experience in Access preferred.
  • Working knowledge of human resources management principles and practices in all human resources programs preferred.
  • Experience and demonstrated competency administering Federal and State employee benefit laws involving employee benefits (Such as HIPAA, FMLA, ADA or Section 504 Vocational Rehabilitation, Worker’s Compensation, etc.) is required.
  • Experience working with the Department of Community Health's State Health Benefits Program (SHBP), Georgia Breeze, and State Retirement is strongly preferred.
