Job Description

Job Description:                                 CHARGE / REGISTERED NURSE

 

Department:                                         Medical Nursing

 

Responsible To:                                   Nurse Director

 

Education/Training:                            BSN preferred. In lieu of BSN, commitment to earn BSN within an established period of time may be required.

 

Experience:                                           Based on number of experienced nurses on unit, experience may not be required.

 

License:                                                 Valid State of Florida Nursing License. BLS required.

 

Physical Requirements:                      Good physical condition to occasionally sit; frequently stand, walk bend/stoop, and squat; occasionally kneel, reach above shoulder level, and balance; ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull maximum over 50lbs with assistance; must continually be able to see, hear, speak, and use both hands to easily communicate.

 

Environmental Conditions:               Primarily works inside (> 75% of time) and may experience the following hazards: biological, needles and sharps, radiation, stress, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and occasional temperature extremes.

 

Occupational Exposure:                    Category I = Job involves tasks or procedures that have exposure to blood and potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.

  

Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

RN:        

  1. Performs accurate and complete assessments on patients within established time frames; requests consults as indicated. Establishes and updates a patient plan of care based on periodic assessments.
  2. Assists with providing for the physical comfort and safety of patients (i.e., bath, linen changes, feeding and toileting). Transcribes patient orders.
  3. Provides and documents patient education based on assessed needs.  Family is included in teaching as appropriate. Administers medications.
  4. Requests/obtains charges for supplies and equipment.  Obtains and verifies all consent forms.
  5. Supervises and gives assignments to the Nursing Assistant and PCT’s assigned to his/her patients.
  6. Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patient served.  Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patient and family.
  7. Regularly evaluate patient’s level of pain using an approved pain scale, as evidenced by documentation on the medical record.
  8. Intervenes in a timely manner to alleviate patient’s pain and evaluate the effectiveness of relief efforts, as evidenced by documentation on the medical record. Educates patients and their families to pain management at Flagler Hospital as evidenced by documentation on the medical record.

RN CHARGE:

  1. Assures Nurses are completing the Essential Responsibilities as outlined in the RN section of the job description.  Prepares assignments to oncoming staff.
  2. Performs Director administrative duties in the absence of the Nursing director of the area.  Attends Patient Flow Huddles as requested by the Director.
  3. Assist with patient bed assignment in coordination with the Bed Placement Coordinator or Nursing Supervisor.

 Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Director.
