Job Description

 GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

 The position is responsible for production of the financial statements and corresponding reports to internal and external users.  The Financial Analyst I is expected to apply extensive use of technology to create effective and accurate reports to support the objectives of the credit union and the internal customer.

 The position will also provide support for profitability analytics and will run the budget and planning model.

 PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Produce the monthly financial reporting package presented to Sr. Management and the Board of Directors.
  2. Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports including branch reports, market balance sheets and cost center reports
  3. Understand the principals of cost accounting and run the monthly processes in the activity based costing model.
  4. Act as a liaison between finance department and accounting department for financial statement preparation and reconciliation issues. 
  5. Develop relationships with the assigned operating division to understand the dynamics of the business supported.  Must demonstrate a strategic sense of service.
  6. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, working with assigned cost center owners to develop expense plans.   
  7. Develop an overall understanding of strategic and tactical operations of the credit union.  Includes understanding the needs of members, employees and the credit union. 
  8. Perform cost analysis of credit union products, services, programs and departments.  Lead in the development and reporting of KPI. 
  9. Conduct cost/benefit analysis and/or breakeven analysis for various projects assigned. 
  10. Continually review methodologies and processes to improve and enhance results within the finance department and within the supported business unit.  Lead projects to implement improvement plans.
  11. Provide leadership within the department to promote teamwork and accountability.
  12. Develops and supports a strong sales and service culture throughout the credit union.
  13. Demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the values, philosophies, and leadership characteristics of the credit union.
  14. Work with other credit union departments to insure end-to-end workflow and processes are effective and efficient. 
  15. Promotes honest and open communication throughout the credit union.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Requirements

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Self-starter and able to work with limited supervision.
  2. Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  3. Ability to think analytically, creatively and logically.
  4. Ability to manage multiple projects, objectives, and deadlines.
  5. Knowledge of budgeting processes and concepts.
  6. Ability to work with large amounts of data for analytical analysis.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  8. Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict and miscommunications.
  9. Very strong knowledge of spreadsheet software and ability to use word processing software. Database knowledge is a plus.
  10. Must be able to be bonded.

 PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

In this position, individual will be expected to lift up to 20 pounds from time to time. Also, must be able to stoop, bend, reach or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time.

 WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is expected to work in general office environment and may have to travel for visits to other credit union facilities or for training purposes.

 EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required with two or more years of related work experience. Financial institution work experience is a plus.
