Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, GA seeks several part-time campus police officers for our Elbert County Campus. The police officer will be required to provide protection of life and property through the enforcement of established laws and the policies of Athens Technical College. The police officer will perform within the accordance of the federal, state, county, municipal laws, and college policies. The police officer will be responsible for providing general campus safety and protective work on grounds and facilities against loss or damage, implementing campus emergency plan, and monitoring traffic and parking regulations.


  • Patrol campus on foot or in police vehicle in order to deter crime, direct traffic, provide service or assistance to employees, students or visitors to campus, and to enforce traffic and parking regulations.
  • Investigate disturbances, suspicious circumstances, traffic accidents or violation of college regulations when prompted by phone calls, alarms, citizens' requests, or officers' observations. Talk with individuals to determine causes of disturbances or accidents. Take reports and accurately complete forms to record incident.
  • Direct traffic at campus events using barricades, traffic cones, traffic vests, and flashlights.
  • Assist local police department when called in order to enforce state laws and city ordinances.
  • Work closely with the Director of Security/Emergency Preparedness, Campus Administrators and Security Officers.
  • Familiarize themselves with the Campus safety manual, to address emergency on campus, from bombs, fires, active shooters, severe weather conditions, evacuation routes and etc.
  • Participate in training activities including classroom and mock exercises
  • Perform related work as assigned.

SALARY: $20.00 per hour, private off duty rate.

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must maintain annual certification requirements.
  • Must be Georgia POST Certified with Basic Law Enforcement Mandate and in "Good Standing" or must obtain Georgia POST certification with basic mandate within 12 months of employment.  Passing or qualifying scores are adopted from the requirements set by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council.
  • Must be actively working with the Elbert County Sheriff's Office or City of Elberton Police Department.
