Job Description

The Storage System DVT Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that sTec products will fully function in any end user/customer system.  This position requires general computer lab skills with an understanding of data storage principles.  This person would be energetic and require very little instruction.  This test engineer must have knowledge of the latest Enterprise market data storage hardware and applications and be able to apply this knowledge to any data storage system.  The position will require an individual that can be provided a high level description of a project or task and be able to independently research and implement.  The right person would be able to visualize complex data storage configurations and quickly be able to determine the point of failures using general logic skills.  The best person for this job would have likely emerged as a team leader if placed onto a team working on a project in which members have limited relevant experience.

The DVT Engineer requires Storage System test skills and performs lab tasks including test software and tool development.  This person would be a self starter and require little supervision. The position will require an individual that can be provided a high level description of a project or task and be able to independently research and implement.  This test engineer must have knowledge of the latest Enterprise market data storage hardware and applications and be able to apply this knowledge to any data storage system. The right person would be able to analyze complex data storage configurations and quickly be able to determine the point of failures using relevant tools and skills.  The best person for this job would have likely emerged as a team leader if placed in a newly formed team working on a project in which members have little relevant experience.

In this technical role, with strong communication and teamwork skills, your responsibilities will include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Defining, designing and implementing test cases on assigned project.
  • Delivering timely, accurate and complete test results to the global sTec product development teams. 
  • Participate in determining direction and methodology for test requirements and test development.
  • Utilizing automation to the maximum extent possible to transition tests for rapid execution in testing many systems simultaneously.
Skills/Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science EE / BS CS (or equivalent) and 6 years of experience
  • Or MS EE / MS CS (or equivalent) and 4 years of experience

REQUIRED SKILLS and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of three years test development experience
  • Track record following structured methodologies, including but not limited to: requirements analysis and capture, test design documentation, version control tools and defect tracking tools.
  • Contributed to product test development, from concept to production; including having been responsible for delivering and implementing the corresponding test suites.
  • Experience in scripting and test bench design
  • Experience with COTS-based drive tools (SCSI Tool Box, IOMeter, DriveMaster, etc.)
  • Experience debugging using JTAG based debuggers and UART-based logging mechanisms for embedded systems
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly describe and summarize highly technical test challenges.
  • Strong troubleshooting logic skills
  • Knowledge of data storage fundamentals
  • Research and self-learning skills
  • Basic SCSI protocol knowledge
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Ability to use equipment such as bus analyzers and review traces

DESIRED SKILLS and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience with scripting and C, C# and C++ Programming
  • Prior experience with Solid State Drives
  • Knowledge of hard drive fundamentals
  • Familiar with SCSI protocol(s) (preferably SAS and FC) and ATA-based Protocols or PCIe

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and emails in English. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to internal customers and other employees of the organization.
