Job Description

The OSP Engineering Manager will be a member of the OSP Services team and will be dedicated to adhering to procedures, focused on producing the best quality service, being highly productive and mindful of costs.  The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a challenging, dynamic, team-based environment.

The successful candidate must meet a majority of the knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience requirements outlined below.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                                           

This position can be based in Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL (relocation not available).

Provides supervision within the market area to Manage Outside Plant opportunities for AFL providing support to functional and program management at all levels.  Negotiate with customer for scope of work, deliverables and deadlines. Select and manage subcontractors to perform required OSP duties. Ensure deliverables and deadlines are met.  Approve invoices and prepare OSP spreadsheets for invoicing customer.

Demonstrates knowledge of  telephone industry standards, accessing, reading and interpreting mechanized assignment records, PC applications, OSP record and/or computer aided drafting systems and able to interact with all on-line computer systems that the Customer requires.

  • Demonstrates an ability to lead and self-start in the Design Engineering role. Has the capability to complete complicated OSPE projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead and develop OSP team of 20+ members in remote locations.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of customer based systems, PO requirements and change order process. 
  • SME on life cycles of customer PO's and invoice backup requirements.
  • Ability to grow OSP business through new sales and territories.
  • Provides leadership and assigns field project personnel, resources, and safety equipment to Operation Supervisors in a timely manner to ensure completion of project tasks.
  • Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Skills/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, a technical discipline, or 8+ years’ experience in engineering management, and/or related functional areas in communication systems companies.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in OSP environment.
  • Knowledge of AT&T standards and systems, experience with Verizon, Centurylink Level 3 beneficial
  • Must possess project management skills in the areas of scheduling, cost control and work breakdown structures.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug, background & reference checks. 
  • Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
