Job Description

Since becoming an independent organization in 2002, BBYO has built a powerful platform of professionals, volunteers and teens who are capable of delivering a wide menu of compelling experiences to the Jewish teen audience. Since that time, the number of teen participants has more than doubled to 36,000, its North American staff has grown to over 100 professionals, and its budget exceeds $20 million. During the next five years BBYO will fully leverage this platform by offering clearly defined learning objectives, more program experiences, more opportunities to connect and more substantive tools to measure impact, ultimately sending a more passionate generation of young Jews to campus and young adulthood.

The Ohio Northern Region (ONR) BBYO program has increased in size and scope every year for the past five years.  ONR includes the cities of Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Toledo, and Canton.  There are currently over 670 BBYO members spread throughout our northern Ohio Jewish communities.  ONR BBYO has an additional 1300 teens involved through middle school and other community-wide programming. The Ohio Northern Region has close partnerships with several local agencies and camps, and has a successful alumni and parent ambassador network. There is a great deal of structure and tradition associated with the program, and we are seeking an energetic professional who will help continue to grow and strengthen ONR BBYO.

Position Summary:
The BBYO Program Associate will have three main responsibilities:  1) seek to fulfill the BBYO Connect Mission(to create a community of Jewish 6th- 8thgraders through social, community service, and Judaic programming), 2) transition more 8thgrade teens into AZA & BBG, and 3) engage more Jewish high school teens in meaningful Jewish experiences that will serve as a gateway to continued involvement in Jewish life.  In doing so the Program Associate will:

  • Develop innovative programs that engage middle school teens socially, culturally, communally, and intellectually through programming in three primary “fold” focus areas: Social, Judaic, and Service.
  • Support and inspire teens by creating engaging opportunities which will lead them to continued involvement in Jewish life and by serving as a Jewish role model and experiential educator.
  • Support and engage parents in BBYO & BBYO Connect programming and marketing.
  • Stay up to date with middle school trends.
  • Facilitate the planning process with youth leadership and be responsible for the administration and supervision of all BBYO Connect programs including overnights and immersive experiences.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with Jewish and secular community organizations and local agencies (e.g., secular middle schools, camps and local JCCs). This includes continuing to enhance BBYO’s partnership with J-Serve as a middle school experience.
  • Develop annual program calendar, budget, and implementation plan/timeline.
  • Attend/supervise local programming, BBYO’s Staff Conference, and Immersive Summer Experience.
  • Enhance BBYO’s community visibility and teen involvement through multi-faceted marketing and programming.
  • Serve as “staff coordinator” for ONR’s Josh Mendelsohn New Member Weekend (AIT/MIT).
  • Empower Regional Connect Leaders through leadership development and support.
  • Enhance and start AZA, BBG, & BBYO Connect Chapters and grow their memberships.
  • As part of the BBYO team, assist with other BBYO programs and duties as needed.

The ideal candidate will be an innovative and creative self-starter.  He or she will take an entrepreneurial approach to creating Jewish, social, and service activities that resonate with Jewish teens today, encouraging them to experience Judaism on their terms while providing them with the tools, resources, and guidance to add value, meaning, and identity to their lives.  Experience in working with youth is preferred.

This position is full time with a choice of excellent benefits packages including health, vision and dental plans, paid time off and up to 4% retirement fund match contribution. Additional time off is available for Jewish holidays, parental leave, and community service.
