Job Description

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for aspects of network administration including servers, backups, desktop systems, communications hardware/software and office systems. Systems administration includes backups, security management, user account management, e-mail systems, office systems and applications support. Supports servers, desktops, and applications.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Provide support, build, and implement server systems across the enterprise; includes installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all servers and maintenance, associated software; troubleshoot server and application performance issues.
  • Maintain documentation for network servers and services.
  • Investigate server problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and implement solutions.
  • Ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.
  • Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize server availability.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the servers.
  • Document server and application problems and resolutions timely and accurately for future reference within help desk software.
  • Maintain site licenses for entire organization.
  •  Work requires extensive work using a computer. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2003/2008 Server operating system, Microsoft Active Directory 2003/2008, and advanced TCP/IP and networking concepts.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communications.
  • Experience with Virtualization.
  • Candidate should be able to work as part of a team, as well as be able to perform duty assignments with limited direction.
  • Ability to administer a 200+ node network including firewall and VPN’s
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Familiar with Microsoft SQL server 2005 and later versions.
  • Experience with network cabling installation and troubleshooting.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

There may be some travel requirements for this position.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Degree in Computer Science or related field. Three to five years of increasingly responsible network administration and design experience on a medium sized network of servers, desktop systems using current technologies.
