Job Description

Cogent is a growing, Midwest company in the fluid pumping, water processing/treatment and equipment rental business.  Our companies include Lee Mathews, Vandevanter Engineering, BRI, Water Technology Group & Fluid Equipment.  Together, the Cogent Companies provide best-in-class municipal & industrial water and wastewater process solutions and technical services.

Our Vandevanter Engineering and BRI divisions are currently seeking IT Technical Support to provide excellent customer service and support on computer applications and platforms.

The IT Technical Support position includes the following job functions:

  •  Provides technical assistance to users via phone, email, remote connection, or in-person while following standard procedures.
  • Administers help desk software; logs incidents, documents resolutions and prepares activity reports.
  • Identifies and escalates situations requiring urgent attention.
  • Installs new and rebuilds existing computers and configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Diagnoses and resolves technical hardware and software issues within a Windows environment; researching solutions as needed.
  • Ensures system information, changes and updates are current.
  • Identifies opportunities for implementation of new technology.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Management, Computer Science or other related field of study required or an equivalent in experience.  Minimum two years' experience providing hands-on technical support required.

Qualified applicants will also possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of fundamental operations of Windows OS, computer hardware and networking equipment.
  • Knowledge of call tracking applications.
  • Working knowledge of OnBase or other CMS a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and plan work.
  • Ability to work alone and within a team environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Minimal travel will be required.
