Job Description

RCO Legal, P.S., an industry leading specialty law firm located in Bellevue, is currently looking for a Finance Manager.

RCO specializes in the representation of financial institutions, substantial investors, title insurers, housing authorities and select businesses in all matters related to licensing, servicing, mortgage banking, consumer finance, special credits, title insurance, real estate finance, and the enforcement of mortgage loans.

Summary: The Controller/Finance Manager is primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining adequate internal controls over processing and reporting of financial transactions, collaborates with Technology and Operational departments to assure workflow  incorporate necessary audit trail and seamless integration with accounting software, coordinates production, distribution and review of monthly finance package, manages all accounting functions, financial planning, and provides input to Managing Attorney on operational issues. 

The Controller/Finance Manager will be responsible for:

  1. Review, establishment and maintenance of a system of adequate internal controls over all financial aspects of the company’s operations.  This includes but is not limited to:
    1. Revenue and purchasing systems (Case Ready & FTS)
    2. Employment cost programs including hourly payroll, hourly billing and incentive compensation programs
    3. Cash receipts & disbursements and collections efforts
    4. Production of financial information and analytical analysis
    5. Document processes 
  2. Timely production and analysis of monthly financial reporting package with analytics
    1. Manage accounting team to assure timely production of financial statements and analytics
    2. Review abnormalities in statements and provide explanation to management
    3. Develop reporting tools for evaluation of performance and need for change in operations, level of personnel or process
    4. Assist Managing Attorneys in presentation of financial information to owners
  3. Collaborate with managers and
    1. Assist in making policy decisions for the growth of the firm
    2. Coordinate resources of the firm for continually improved efficiency
    3. Recommendation on change to enhance process, improve accuracy and increase profitability
    4. Develop financial plans, budgets and cash forecast
    5. Manage customer and vendor accounts (receivables and payables) 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

Reporting:

  • Assures all business transactions are properly recorded in a timely manner and properly reflected in financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP) and company policy
  • Coordinate and conclude the monthly review of operating statements
  • Maintains cash forecast to ensure obligations are able to be met timely
  • Analyze and project all aspects of company’s financial performance
  • Manage annual external review of financial statements
  • Manage legal compliance of entitles including bylaws of multiple entities, state tax reporting and regulatory reporting requirements 

Management:

  • Evaluates accounting and operational processes.  Seeks new processes as needed to improve company efficiency and effectiveness
  • Interact with system developers to assure adequate appropriate data is created and maintained for financial reporting
  • Manage real estate and operating lease portfolio to assure compliance and timely extension or renewal
  • Supports Managing Attorney with special projects
  • Support operational managers with audits by states, customers and others 

Manage Accounting Staff:

  • Assures all state and local tax returns are filed properly and timely
  • Assures all reconciling differences are investigated and resolved in a timely manner
  • Manages daily A/P and A/R operations
  • Communicates with clients and vendors to resolve discrepancies and past due accounts
  • Advises accounting staff regarding the handling of non-routine transactions
  • Supervise, motivate and train individuals associated with the accounting department
  • Handles personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.

  • Ability to maintain strong interpersonal relationships with various other companies and clients Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the Accounting Group. 
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems
Skills/Requirements

Education and Qualification:

  • BA required and 5+ years of experience in multi-office law firm or professional service company administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • MBA preferred. Previous experience in $100M sized company, with multiple legal entities in complex ownership structure, and experience working in an entrepreneurial environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of informational systems, flow of data, technology and creative problem solving

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.  

Mathematical Ability:

Financial analysis skills including present value computations, ROI, and various ratios.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. 

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
