Job Description:                                 CARDIO TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1              


Department:                                         Cardiopulmonary Services               


Responsible To:                                   Director of Cardiopulmonary and Cardio Supervisor


Education/Training:                            BLS required.  Phlebotomy competency required for Out Patient Laboratory


Experience:                                           Medical experience or medical training required. Specific training in Cardiology preferred.


Physical Requirements:                      Satisfactory degree of manual dexterity; the ability to walk and stand for considerable periods of time; the ability to lift and move patients and equipment; the ability to see and hear well; the ability to handle all situations with emotional stability; maintain a level of health that will ensure the ability to carry-out job functions


Environmental Conditions:               May experience the following hazard:  Constant exposure biological (particularly radiation) blood and AIDS. 


Occupational Exposure:                    Category I= Job involves tasks or procedures that have exposure to blood and potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.





  1. Accurately perform only upon the order of a physician/physician extender and in accordance with the protocols established by the hospital the following: (1) Holter Monitor and Ambulatory Blood Pressure application (2) Physiologic monitoring of the cardiopulmonary system (ECG, and Exercise Tolerance Testing both chemical and regular.) (3) Phlebotomy (If assigned to work in Out Patient Lab) (4) Patient Transportation  (5) NICOM (noninvasive cardiac monitoring  cardiography),
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in MUSE Everywhere, Meditech and Medhost.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all equipment functions, maintenance, precautions and hazards of all equipment used, providing necessary support to maintain equipment inventory to include cleaning and stocking.  Reviews daily work to check for completeness, obvious errors or omissions.
  4. Orientate new employees to the department and assist with student education.
  5. Perform other job related duties as assigned by Director.
