Job Description

Metropolitan Lighthouse Charter School is now accepting applications for an Instructional Support Teacher for an immediate start. This person would take over a 4th grade classroom while the current teacher is out on maternity leave. This position will run through the end of the school year.

Lighthouse Academy (LHA) Instructional Support Teachers are more than instructional staff members and classroom managers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Instructional Support Teacher (IST) is a critical instructional staff member at Metropolitan Lighthouse Charter School. The IST will provide coverage for extended leaves from classrooms, provide small group intervention services, and serve in other capacities at the school as needed. The IST will receive experience in multiple grade levels across the school, which will provide a strong foundation to in moving into a full-time classroom teacher role during the 2012-2013 school year. In addition, the IST will receive the same high quality professional development and coaching support as the other instructional staff at MetLCS. The Instructional Support Teacher will have the following duties:

• Covering maternity leave in 4th Grade in January - June
• Providing other long-term coverage as needed
• Providing small group intervention services in reading and/or math when not providing maternity leave coverage
• Covering one-day absences
• Providing operational support in the school such as breakfast duty, lunch duty, and bus duty
• Working alongside classroom teachers to provide high quality instruction
• Other tasks as assigned by the principal

Skills/Requirements

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education 
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS:

  • Prior experience working in a school setting supporting student instruction
  • Must have current teacher certification and Highly Qualified designation under No Child Left Behind
  • Strong desire to work within an innovative, urban educational program
  • Understanding of the basic principles of explicit instruction and student engagement
  • Mastery of content knowledge in assigned area (s) of instruction as demonstrated by state exam
  • Knowledge of assigned subject and current practices
  • Knowledge of school policy; knowledge of theory and practice of student learning styles
  • Proven track record of raising student achievement scores
  • Ability to turn best practices into high quality, goal-driven  results
  • Highly effective writing, oral and interpersonal skills to communicate with a varied audience
  • Data managements tools, organizational tools, computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook)
