Job Description:                                 ICCU MONITOR TECH

 

Department:                                        ICCU / MICU / Monitor Bank

 

Responsible To:                                  Director and/or Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse

 

Education/Training:                         High school education or equivalent preferred; course in EKG monitoring pref. BLS required.

 

Experience:                                         Experience as a unit secretary and/or monitor technician pref.

 

Physical Requirements:                    Ability to sit for considerable periods of time.  Requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and frequent mental/visual strain; ability to handle all situations with emotional stability.

 

Environmental Conditions:             Primarily works inside (75% of time) but may experience the following hazards: biological, radiation, and stress. 

 

Occupational Exposure:                  Category II = Job involves tasks or procedures that have some exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.                 

Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Consistently determines that all patient chart identification is correct.
  2. Answers telephone on or before three rings and states department, name and offers assistance in an upbeat tone. Answers the Hill ROM Nurse call or telephone immediately and accurately relays messages.
  3. Initiates calls to physicians as ordered.  Completes the initiation of all orders on the patient’s charts promptly and accurately.
  4. Monitors the cardiac monitors and notifies the primary nurse of any abnormalities.  Routinely places graph monitor strips on appropriate chart copies.
  5. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to assist with the provision of care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area (adult/geriatric).
  6. Demonstrates familiarity with hospital equipment with supplies and maintains adequate levels of chart materials, requisitions, and other nursing or medical forms. Demonstrates the proper procedure for obtaining, charging for ad returning supplies/equipment. Keeps work station and unit neat and clean; maintains a presentable personal appearance and an attractive, safe and organized work area.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to communicate organizational policies and procedures effectively.  Assumes primary responsibility for ensuring that the chain of command is followed when clinical or environmental issues may affect the patient, staff or hospital.
  8. Performs other job related duties as assigned by Director or Nurse Manager.
