This group provides site development, engineering, and construction expertise, integrated services, and fiber optic products. The Structured Cable Technician will be a member of the Enterprise Services team and will be dedicated to adhering to procedures, focused on producing the best quality service, being highly productive and mindful of costs.  The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a challenging, dynamic, team-based  environment.

The successful candidate must meet a majority of the knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience requirements outlined below.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform the installation, terminating, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting of voice, data, and fiber optic premise distribution systems, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Installation of Cable Support Systemssuch as cable trays, ladder racks, J-hooks, bridle/D-rings.
  • Installation of Work Area Outlets
  • Pulling Backbone Cable (UTP/ScTP/STP-A)
  • Pulling Horizontal Cable (UTP/ScTP/STP-A).
  • Firestoppingincluding coring of firewall, installing sleeves and firestoping.
  • Pre-Termination- organize, form, dress cables, determine length/slack, label cables.
  • Termination- complete IDC terminations, UTP, STP-A, cross-connect blocks, patch panels.
  • Connectors - assemble and install 8-pin modular connectors, coaxial connectors, demonstrate connector color codes.
  • Testing - use tone test set, volt-ohm –meter, diagnose open, shorted, crossed, and split pairs, active circuits, and use industry standard test equipment.
  • Retrofits- remove abandoned cables.
  • Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Skills/Requirements

REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE                                                                                                                            

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3-5 years experience as a Network Services Installer.
  • Must have working knowledge of the EIA/TIA installation 
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment assessments, background & reference checks. 
  • Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills combined with technical understanding of voice, data, and fiber optic systems. 
  • Project management experience a plus .
  • BICSI Technician or RCDD a plus .
  • Manufacturer certifications a plus . 
  • Must possess the ability to troubleshoot premise distributions systems and layout a project; includes the ability to read and interpret blueprints. 
  • Must be proficient in the use of all tools, equipment, and testers related to premise distributions systems work. 
  • Must have working knowledge of construction, electrical work and other systems.
