About the Position:

The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is looking for an fellow / intern in the area of Power Electronics start exploring Fraunhofer CSE’s capabilities in power electronics and power systems. The Power Electronics Fellow / Intern will report to the SmartGrid director. The individual will assist in charting a strategy to build capabilities in the electrical energy system field and build those capabilities.

We seek a talented individual with a strong background in power electronics design, development, test and validation, and adjacent fields. You'll be a key part of a dynamic team that shares a commitment to engineering excellence, combined with an excitement about sustainable energy technology.                    

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Chart a foundation for the electrical energy systems activities at Fraunhofer CSE
  • Begin a strategy and capabilities to perform electrical energy systems R&D
  • Perform contract research for commercial and government clients
  • Present findings of research at relevant conferences and industry events
  • Assist in the composition of technical papers and final reports

Experience and Education:

The ideal candidate will have the following education, and relevant experience in several of the areas listed:

  • Strong background in power electronics for a wide range of power from mW to kW, for a broad range of technologies
  • Significant experience with experimental and simulation methodologies, as well as the efficient combination of both
  • Experience with measuring and modeling energy consumption of power electronics technologies
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art power saving technologies
  • Experience analyzing residential electric devices and/or systems, such as appliance and consumer electronics, ideally with in-home testing
  • Understanding of low and medium voltage distribution grids
  • Experience with grid simulation tools, e.g., Power Factory
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills 
  • Experience leading projects highly preferred
  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Bachelor’s Degree in EE with at least six months of relevant experience
