Job Description

What You'll Be Working On:
As a key player on our IT team, you will be responsible for administration of our entire web infrastructure (server and network) as well as certain internal systems. This involves installing and maintaining servers, network switches, and firewalls. You will need to ensure and improve the infrastructure’s security and performance. Working on critical business systems, you will help monitor the systems and be part of an on-call team to provide lights-on support. (Occasional after-hours availability necessary.)

In addition to hardware administration, you will also be responsible for configuring and maintaining several software components, including Unix or Linux operating systems, HTTP servers, web application servers (Java, ColdFusion, Ruby, PHP), DNS servers, and version control systems. Software should be upgraded and tested as needed, and it must be configured as required by IT (standards, security, performance) and the needs of the business.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR...

Who we DO want applying:

This position requires experience in Unix or Linux environments, particularly web solution stacks. Someone who pays close attention to details, with an ability to proactively recognize security, performance, and risk implications of changes before they are implemented. You must be able to react quickly to fix issues that cause downtime and determine the cause. Then, you must identify any changes that can be made to avoid these issues in the future. Problem solving and research are essential to this position, and we are looking for someone who is willing to try new or different solutions and technologies to meet the needs of our company and our customers.

You must be self-motivated and willing to work hard, think creatively, and communicate effectively...and like to have fun!

Need to have experience:

  • Unix (BSD) or Linux server administration (FreeBSD, CentOS or similar flavors or distros)
  • Web server configuration, security, tuning (Apache httpd or similar: nginx, lighttpd, etc.)
  • Network security management (firewall configuration, VLANs, VPN, etc.)
  • Network configuration (switches, load balancers)

Nice to have experience:

  • PHP application server configuration, security, tuning
  • Ruby application server configuration, security, tuning (JRuby or native: Unicorn, Passenger, Thin, etc.)
  • Process automation (shell scripting, Perl scripts, cron, etc.)
  • Software configuration management (Chef, Puppet, etc.)
  • Log aggregation/centralized logging
  • Virtualization and cloud implementation, migration, performance, use cases
  • Software development (ability to write, debug, build, etc.)
  • Open source project involvement, contributions
  • Version control system administration, management (Subversion, Git, Mercurial, etc.)
  • Java web application container configuration, security, tuning (Tomcat or similar: Geronimo, JBoss, etc.)
  • DNS configuration: master-slave replication, split DNS (BIND or similar)

Who we DON'T want applying:

Since this position is almost exclusively Unix- and Linux-based, we are NOT looking for Windows admins for this role.  If you love sitting and coding all day this would probably not be a good fit for you (but check out these openings). There may be some coding involved, however, and a background in software development will be considered a plus.

Someone just looking for a j-o-b. Who will punch a clock and give the bare minimum to get a paycheck. Those who love silos. We operate in a team environment and collaborate on a daily basis. If you want to work by yourself, go play solitaire.

No Toadstools
Pushing the limits of technology is a part of the average work day. That means we expect our team members to push the envelope on their own skills as well. If you aren’t growing, you’re planting roots into your chair as the light from your screen transforms you into a toadstool… and well, who would want that!?

WHO WE ARE…

We Really Believe in This Stuff
Everyday we get to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Providing hope to those who need it. Getting our message out there. Helping customers get out of debt and build wealth. Showing leaders in business how to grow, serve and lead their company. Encouraging people to transition from their day job to their dream job. It's why we do what we do. Work that changes lives, work that gives hope.

Work in Your Strengths
Our goal is to help position each team member in a role that plays to their strengths, that sets them up to shine...to win. Know yourself well enough to know what you do well, and just as importantly, what you don't.

Win or Lose as a Team
Our team openly collaborates to create remarkable user experiences that positively impacts lives. Everyone on the team is responsible for bringing new ideas, perspectives and solutions to the table. Starting with day one, we want your voice as part of the conversation. Collaboration does not equal positioning and pushing others off the ladder. Rather, collaboration has the ability to benefit your paycheck. As part of a competitive compensation package, we include a share of the business we do on the web. Our aim is to serve each other, and our customers well.

Have a Life
Life is important, and we want you to have one (feel free to add that to the list of employee benefits)! That’s why we work 8-hour days with very few late nights. If normal is having to miss family events, pulling teeth to get time off and feeling like you have to choose between work and family– then weird sounds good. But hey, don’t just take our word for it…our team, company-wide, has voted our company one of the BEST places to work in Nashville five times in a row!

About Our Company
We're a privately-owned and operated, debt-free company comprised of over 325 people that make up 15 Small Business Units (our version of departments), growing 30 products, focused on a single mission:

"The Lampo Group. Inc. provides biblically based, common-sense education and empowerment which gives HOPE to everyone from the financially secure to the financially distressed."
