Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Database Administrator Intern, you will be responsible for working with the DBA department to assist in the day-to-day administration, support and ongoing enhancement of Menards' Database Infrastructures.  The DBA Intern will be primarily responsible for assisting in the maintenance of Database documentation and learning how to support the environment to maximize system uptime and productivity. Menards interns gain valuable, real-world experience in mission-critical database environments while being able to work a part-time, flexible schedule to fit in their educational needs. The position requires a highly motivated, team-orientated person with excellent communication skills and an emphasis in Database Design. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Database Support:
    • Configure and troubleshoot workstation Database access setup
    • Help create documentation of every aspect of Database Management Systems including hardware configuration and maintenance records
  • Application Development:
    • Help maintain existing Entity Relationship Diagrams, Data Dictionary and Meta-Data repositories
    • Load database software on test environments after installation of new hardware or software
    • Help test newly installed databases in conjunction with application software
    • Help monitor newly installed databases for optimal performance
  • Other:
    • Other tasks as assigned by the manager

 





Skills/Requirements

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pursuing an Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science or MIS related field and within three semesters of graduation
  • Minimum one year of experience in networking or computers
  • Excellent performance interpersonal skills, customer service skills, organizational skills and verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills for problem determination and resolution
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work in a secure, mission-critical production-computing environment  
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, cooperate with others
  • Preferred Knowledge in the following:
    • Logical Database Design
    • Physical Database Design
    • Structured Query Language
  • This position runs from June 05 - August 25
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States, presently and in the future, without sponsorship
