The Postion:

Merkle is undergoing a fundamental transition from a Database Marketing Agency (DbM) to a Customer Relationship Marketing Agency (CRM) built on a foundation of analytics, consulting, technology and execution and leveraging the company’s strong heritage in database marketing.

We are seeking an exceptional leader for our world class analytics team. This person is a leader who understands that data is the engine that fuels marketing creativity and innovation and is at the core of truly innovative solutions that solve our clients’ most important marketing problems.  The leader we seek is a subject matter expert in marketing analytics and best practices in statistical applications, technology and their use in marketing in a multi-channel environment.

Reporting to the EVP, Chief Operating Officer, the scope and responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Responsible for growing a highly successful, multi-million dollar analytics business unit.  The business has been experiencing growth of over 20% in the past 3 years and is expected to grow by a similar percentage this year. 
  • Provide leadership and vision to our growing team of 130+ highly talented analytics professionals working in our US offices and in China. Our world-class analytics team works with many of the best brands in the world including several global Fortune 500 clients. 
  • Develop talent and improve analytics team capabilities including predictive modeling, customer lifetime value, marketing mix optimization, attribution and measurement, segmentation, market research, digital analytics and business intelligence.  Expand emerging capability areas such as sales force optimization and pricing optimization.
  • Effectively recruit new team members and retain existing talent always with an eye toward improving employee engagement and satisfaction while raising the bar and increasing levels of talent. 
  • Oversee the full analytical project lifecycle, from business development to final delivery.  Lead large cross-functional projects serving as our strategic analytics expert to ensure projects are connected to the strategic intent of campaigns and underlying business objectives. 
  • Regularly interface with C-level clients and other senior executives; quickly developing rapport and winning their confidence.  Actively contribute to new business development activities by presenting client pitches, speaking at major conferences, writing and publishing white papers and articles on innovation and best practices in marketing analytics.        
  • Develop and grow client relationships by providing expert counsel, innovative insight and analytics solutions that help solve key business problems and understanding that client relationships are built by consistently delivering outstanding quality work projects on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with peers and colleagues throughout the organization in a matrix environment to develop winning solutions and deliver projects on schedule and as planned.
  • Serve as member of the company’s executive leadership team.  


  • A minimum of 15 years prior senior level leadership experience in a leading consulting or marketing services company with responsibility for a comparably- sized analytics business. 
  • Solid client relationship building skills at the C-level working with leading brands and a  proven track record of successfully serving Fortune 100 client relationships 
  • Exceptionally strong database analytical/technical skills including statistical, predictive and economic analyses, data modeling, and other similar database skills.  
  • Previous P&L management and demonstrated ability to balance the demands of sustaining margins while fostering a strong client service orientation. 
  • Experience designing and leading major analytics, marketing mix/optimization/funnel measurement/ database/ analytical/ segmentation/data modeling projects for leading clients. 
  • Experience leading efforts to quantify and segment customer value and identify key drivers of marketing demand and effectiveness. 
  • Previous experience designing and implementing proprietary analytic tools and methodologies 
  • An inclusive hands-on leadership style with proven experience leading, motivating, developing and inspiring a team of analytics professionals.  Demonstrated ability to build and lead highly effective teams 
  • Outstanding oral/written communication and presentation skills; proficiency in preparation and presentation of analytical reports and documents.
