Tax Accountant Apply
CO - Greenwood Village (Home Office)

Based at our Greenwood Village Home Office you will be responsible for compliance with state, city and local laws regarding sales and use taxes and property taxes. This role may also assist with income and other miscellaneous taxes as needed
 

Duties Include:

  • Sales Tax:
    • Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax returns
    • Prepare and file monthly GST and PST tax returns for Canada
    • Prepare non-resident tax withholding for U.S. / Canada transactions
    • Monitor and reconcile sales and use tax accrual accounts on a monthly basis
    • Maintain G/L accounting including preparing journal entries
    • Monitor all jurisdictions sales tax rates and update systems as required
    • Prepare resale exemption certificates
    • Prepare miscellaneous beverage and amusement tax returns
    • Research and timely respond to tax notices
    • Manage sales and use tax audits by gathering requested data, conducting thorough analysis of data and tax laws and resolving open issues
    • Perform research and planning on a proactive, reactive and as-directed basis
    • Perform ad hoc projects as assigned
  • Other Tax Projects
    • Review property tax returns prepared by external company
    • Monitor and reconcile property tax accrual accounts
    • Maintain G/L accounting including preparing journal entries
    • Verify and pay property tax bills
    • Assist the Fixed Asset team in review and proper classification of fixed assets
    • Review unclaimed property amounts and prepare returns as required
    • Monitor and implement new tax legislation
    • Research and timely respond to tax notices
    • Assist management with audits
    • Perform ad hoc projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business related field
  • 2+ years’ experience in sales and use tax
  • Strong preference for sales and use experience in majority of U.S. states
  • Strong preference for general ledger, journal entry and account reconciliation experience
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with Oracle preferred
  • Working knowledge of CCH, BNA or other research software
  • Organized and can manage competing deadlines and due dates
  • Capable of sorting through activities so as to focus upon those with the biggest impact. Prioritizes well
  • Strong attention to detail with consistent accuracy
  • Desire to learn multiple tax areas
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and within the company culture
