Job Description

The Elementary Art Instructional Assistant will support the daily activities, planning, and supervision of students in the Elementary School Art Department under the leadership, guidance, and supervision of the teaching specialist assigned to the classroom.

Primary Responsibilities:

?       Assist teachers when requested in daily classroom activity planning and supervision including supervision of children during recess and play periods

?       Assist teachers in keeping supplies ready, replenished and available for students’ use

?       Assist and interact with students as necessary

?       Manage and organize supplies/storeroom

?       Make preparations for future projects

?       Responsible for putting up art displays

?       Provide general assistance to the Art department during all ES art shows and festivals

?       Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills as designed and prescribed by the teacher

?       Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher including computer technology

?       Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher

?       Guide students in developing social skills to work and play together in a variety of settings

?       Assist with large group activities

?       Participate in in-service training programs as assigned

?       Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully certified teachers

Required Qualifications:

?       Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

?       Exceptional English speaking skills

?       The ability to inspire children

?       Full understanding and support of the school's philosophy

?       Artistic background preferred

?       Prior experience in an educational setting preferred

?       Excellent classroom control

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

?      Ability to establish priorities, take initiative and maintain a flexible schedule

?      Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to multitask and function in a highly dynamic, service-oriented working environment

?      Ability to problem solve

?      Demonstrate a commitment to personal continuous professional growth and development

?      Develop and maintain effective working relationships

Terms of Employment:

This position is classified as a support staff position and reports to the Elementary School Principal. General working hours are from 7:45 am - 3:45 pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:45 am - 12:45 pm (on site) & 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm (remote/flexible) on Fridays. An annual limited period contract will be issued stipulating 186 working days within the year, as per the school’s published calendar.
