Job Description

The Middle School Science Lab Technician will support the daily activities, planning, and supervision of students in the Science Lab, under the guidance and supervision of the teaching specialist assigned to the laboratory.  This will include the setup and removal of all science experiments. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Set up and remove experiments and other required resources

  • Purchase and order required materials for laboratory work (using Middle School Science budget)

  • Manage inventory and keep the science classrooms organized

  • Provide substitute cover for science teachers

  • Participate in group laboratory work

  • Assist teachers when requested in daily classroom activity planning and supervision

  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills as designed and prescribed by the teacher

  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher 

  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher

  • Participate in in-service training programs as assigned

  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully certified teachers

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Exceptional English speaking skills

  • The ability to inspire children

  • Full understanding and support of the school's philosophy

  • Prior experience in an educational setting preferred

  • Excellent classroom control

  • Ability to establish priorities, take initiative and maintain a flexible schedule

  • Must be organized, detail-oriented and able to multitask and function in a highly dynamic, service-oriented working environment

  • Ability to problem solve

  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal continuous professional growth and development

Terms of Employment:

 

This position is classified as a non-sponsored support staff position and the candidate will have to provide a no-objection letter to ASD by the visa sponsor. General working hours are 7:45 am - 3:45 pm Sunday through Thursday. An annual limited period contract will be issued stipulating 186 working days within the year, as per the school’s published calendar.

Criminal background checks will be conducted on all candidates prior to confirmation of employment.
