Job Description

Maplehurst Bakeries LLC, a division of George Weston LTD, is a leading producer of frozen bakery goods since 1967. Our fact based solutions enable our customers to grow sales at a profitable rate. Because of this, Maplehurst products and services can be found in the in-store bakeries of the leading supermarket chains across America. Maplehurst is currently searching for a Plant Accountant to add to our new facility in Lebanon, TN. This is a salary exempt position.  No relocation is available for this opportunity.

Purpose:

Serves in the following functions: production analyst and auditor; Works closely with the plant controller on financial reporting and costing analysis and accounts payable function for the plant.

Duties:

1) Assist the plant controller with period closings, including production yield analysis and efficiencies, and accounts payable invoice accruals.

2) Provide plant reports:

a. Prepare weekly reports related to downtime, manufacturing variances and hog feed.

b. Perform Bill of Material audits to verify floor compliance to the system data.

3) Calculate and track demonstrated capacities by SKU and by line for all manufactured products; Update LX system requirements with this information.

4) Direct the accounts payable function including, but not limited to, the following (for multiple divisions):

a. Review invoices, purchase orders, and receiving documents for accuracy before matching them for payment.

b. Track all incoming invoices, and ensure proper approvals and coding from department managers.

c. Verify AP invoices have appropriate sign-offs and dating for invoice amount.

d. Enter invoices into LX and cut checks to vendors using best practices for vendor payments.

e. Safeguard vendor payment files.

f. Ensure complete and accurate data in LX system.

g. Scan all invoices and backup into internal storage system (Intact)

5) Perform the following general accounting duties:

a. Complete selected governmental reports on plant production.

 b. Assist in completing yearend schedules required by home office, internal, and external auditors.

c. Adherence and compliance with all internal control requirements (Metric Stream).

d.Provide financial information for the environmental report.

e. Complete departmental filing as needed.

6) Active role in plant payroll function.

7) Period Closing Activities

a. Reconcile selected balance sheet accounts. Balance sheet account accuracy is measured in reconciliation of these accounts each period with all reconciling items cleared in the following period.

b. Balance AP sub-ledger to the general ledger balance.

c. Period end reporting to senior management and department managers on production yield results.

d. Period end journal entry, fixed asset reconciliation and variance analysis.





Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university and two years experience in accounting and manufacturing.
  • 1-3 years of Accounting experience required. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a cross functional team atmosphere.   
  • Experience with positive employee relations in a multi-cultural production/manufacturing environment. 
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize the workload, meet deadlines, and work effectively with minimal direction. 
  • Demonstrated computer skills in MS Office applications.
