Job Description:                                 REGISTERED NURSE

 

Department:                                         Rad/Special Procedures

 

Responsible To:                                   Administrator Cardiovascular Services

 

Education/Training:                            BSN preferred. In lieu of BSN, commitment to earn BSN within an established period of time required.

 

Licensure:                                             Valid State of Florida RN license required.  BLS and ACLS required.

 

Experience:                                           One year critical care or emergency experience required.

 

Physical Requirements:                      Requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, frequent mental/visual strain and frequent lifting with mechanical sides 21-50lbs. May require wearing a lead apron.

 

Environmental Conditions:               Primarily works inside (75% of the time) but may experience the following hazards: biological, radiation, and stress, needles, sharps, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and occasional temperature extremes.

 

Occupational Exposure:                    Category I = Job involves tasks or procedures that have exposure to blood and potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.





Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:            

  1. Under the general supervision of the radiologist, maintains the integrity for all sterile imaging procedures and supervises the departmental patient information program.  Demonstrates knowledge of potential lethal allergic reactions to IV contrast.  Sets up transducer, balances and calibrates it.  Takes patients’ vital signs and monitors pulse; administers all medications as ordered by the physician and radiologist.  Demonstrates knowledge of drug reaction, IV conscious sedation and follows conscious sedation procedures. 
  2. Operates the hemodynamic recorder, i.e. monitoring EKG and all pressures of heart and recordings.  Instructs patient on post Cath precautions.
  3. Reports needed repairs to supervisor.  Reports to RN on floor as to patient’s status. 
  4. Assists in preparing patient for Cath procedure.  Hooks up to proper leads for patient monitoring. Processes forms; i.e. nurses notes, charge sheets, time frequency flow sheet, quality assurance data forms.  Knowledge and use of Aldrette score when IV conscious sedation utilized where necessary of a change in Aldrette score arises.  Holds pressure on groin post caths and applies dressings.  Discontinues monitoring, assists patient on stretcher and accompanies to room.  Files report of Cath procedure in the patient’s chart.
  5. Assists with cleaning special procedure room.  Orders and stocks all medications and accessories as needed.  Assists Cardiopulmonary with daily check of Radiology crash cart.
  6. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to the age of the patients served, (neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric) and maintain  knowledge of growth and development with an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.  Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in area.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to recognize and intervene in life threatening emergency including the administration of emergency drugs, and defibrillator or other emergency treatment.
  8. Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Administrator of Cardiovascular Services or the Director of Radiology (i.e. reports to Critical Care Resource Nurse when radiology duties are completed).
