Job Description

Patrick Engineering is currently looking for an ambitious Structural Project Engineer to join their talented structural team.  The Project Structural Engineer will focus on high profile, high dollar, and multi-year rail projects.  He/she will have to opportunity to get involved in projects with all the major railroads.  The Structural Engineer will have the ability to see a project through from start to finish and have the opportunity to leave their personal mark on these projects.  Patrick Engineering encourages their engineers to think out of the box and use the latest trends and concepts on their projects.

The Structural Project Engineer is responsible for the project execution, calculation, and design of engineering projects and technical specifications under the supervision of a senior team member or Project Manager or Group Leader.  The Project Engineer is also often times responsible for and oversees the technical work of one or more Staff Engineers, delegates work appropriately to Staff Engineers, and is highly involved in the QA and QC of calculations, drafts and designs.  Additionally, the Project Engineer acts as the liaison between the Project Manager and Staff Engineers relaying all important and relevant project information in an effective manner.  The Project Engineer is comfortable working cross-functionally and has the ability to coordinate with others on larger, multi-discipline projects.  The Project Engineer will oftentimes accompany the Project Manager on site visits and meetings with clients, and participates in proposal writing (RFP), setting up project scopes, defining deliverables, monitoring schedules and budget costs.  The Project Engineer will be asked to provide recommendations and feedback to clients regularly.





Skills/Requirements

  • BS Civil Engineer (Focused on Structures)
  • 6 to 10+ Years experienced in structural design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges and preparation of design calculations, load ratings, construction documents, specifications and cost estimates.  Projects include new structures and rehabilitation or repair of structures for railroad projects.
  • Professional Engineering License is required.
  • SE License is highly desirable
  • Design experience with AREMA preferred
  • Experience with Class I railroads and/or transit agencies desirable.
  • Experience with MicroStation, L-Pile, and MathCad software desirable.
  • Proven experience in working on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Monitor and adhere to budgets and schedules.
  • Coordination with other disciplines to complete projects.
