Job Description:                                 Histology Supervisor                                       

               

Department:                                         Laboratory/Pathology                       

               

Responsible To:                                   Director of Laboratory/Pathology Services   

 

Licensure:                                             Florida licensed Histotechnologist

 

Experience:                                           Five (5) Years Histotech experience required.  Supervisory experience preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:                      Requires constant walking and standing, frequent stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and mental/visual strain.

 

Environmental Conditions:               Primarily works inside (99% of time) but may experience the following

hazards: constant exposure to biological (particularly blood), chemicals, needles and other sharps.

 

Occupational Exposure:                    Category I = Job involves tasks or procedures that have exposure to blood and potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.





Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists with the Quality Control program for the section so that all lab results are of high quality and are both accurate and precise.
  2. Prepares technical sections for accreditation and licensing.
  3. Troubleshoots equipment and methodologies to resolve problems/malfunctions.
  4. Reviews daily work to check for completeness, obvious errors or omissions.
  5. Performs routine testing Histotechnologist duties 60-80%.
  6. Monthly staffing schedule is created in order to adequately cover all shifts and posted at least one week before the beginning of the new month with vacations and other staff time off fairly considered.
  7. Interviews, hires and evaluates staff as necessary for laboratory section. Renders discipline tactfully and discretely as necessary.
  8. Orders and maintains inventory to insure supplies are available and remain cost effective.
  9. Assists or takes charge of special projects as assigned including the selection of new instrumentation.
  10. Communication, cooperation and assistance is rendered in a timely and courteous manner to all fellow workers including hospital and medical staff.
  11. Notifies Director of Lab and/or Medical Director of any sectional concerns.
  12. Perform other job related duties as assigned by Director.
