Job Description

Seeking Class 1 or Inner City Rail signals design specialist in Boston, Chicago or Jacksonville.  The ideal candidate will be familiar with the design of critical systems for train control. Knowledge of AREMA Rules & Guidelines to Signals & Communications design, FRA Parts 233, 234 & 235, Applicable MUTCD orDOT AHWC (Automated Highway Crossing Systems) and other transportation safety rules is required. Familiarity with vendor driven systems, vital programmable logic controllers and systems integration is a plus.

•Provide Engineering support for preparation of technical specifications for functional/ performance of Signal Systems/ PTC systems with interfaces to conventional wayside/ cab signal systems, AHWC design of new and integration with existing systems.

•Provide engineering/ detailed design review support for conventional wayside/ cab signaling, AHWC and interface to PTC overlay systems where applicable.

•Provide engineering support for integration of PTC systems to existing conventional signal systems/ SSI.

•Perform technical design & reviews of signal design including:  vital interlocking logic, signal location room layout design, signal field equipment layout, Track plans, Cable plans, interfaces to existing signal and AHWC locations, including dark territory.

•Perform technical design reviews for disposition of Contract Deliverables (AHWC & other signal design locations).

•Have a thorough familiarity with vital programmable logic control systems and applicable wayside equipment from key suppliers in the market such as Alstom/GE, Ansaldo/Hitachi in order to perform detailed design & reviews of product and system submittals.





Skills/Requirements

•Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification

•PE desired

•15 years of experience with the design/ oversight of design ofAHWC, wayside signal design & the ability to understand and develop construction phasing.

•15+ years of signal circuit design & testing, application logic programming, location designs, typical railroad circuits, NORAC operating rules, signal block design, AREMA signal standards.

•Have a thorough familiarity with FRA PTC rule requirements and compliance criteria and approval process.

•Have thorough familiarity with AHWC, Conventional signal/ SSI and PTC products from key suppliers in the market.
