Job Description:

The Intern Program Supervisor is responsible for the overall coordination and management of the Intern Training Program for the assigned teams providing leadership to interns and serving as the primary point of communication for the assigned location.  All services provided will remain true to the MHP Guiding Principles. In conjunction with the Program Manager and the Intern and Volunteer Programs Manager, the Intern Program Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned Intern Program serving as the primary point of communication, oversight and decision-making regarding program needs, requirements and development. This will include responsibility for interviewing, selection, training and supervision of interns involved in the program.  This position is a working supervisor who will also provide direct service to clients.

Essential Duties:

Program Management:

  • Under the direction of the Manager, Intern and Volunteer Programs, responsible for program development and implementing program initiatives that are consistent with the program’s objectives
  • Plans, organizes, evaluates, and coordinates the daily operations of the intern program at assigned location
  • Coordinates the delivery of services to consumers of MHP
  • Compiles and prepares program progress reports
  • Responsible for scheduling program activities and communicating expectations to interns
  • Identifies training needs, develops curriculum, and teaches internal classes related to program methods and approaches

Program Liaison:

  • In partnership with the Manager, Intern and Volunteer Programs, acts as the point person for internal and external communication regarding the program which may include direct communication with educational institutions Regularly collaborates among and between internal and external staff and interns at all levels to manage and enhance professional relationships within MHP and with partner agencies
  • Represents MHP at external meetings, committees, and conferences related to the program
  • Prepares presentations to and provides consultation and training to related third-party agencies or at conferences

Other

  • Provides direct service to clients using individual, family and group therapy modalities
  • Promotes and demonstrates MHP’s mission, vision and values through both behavior and job performance on a day to day basis
  • Effectively interacts and communicates with other MHP staff/clients/customers/partners/etc.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform other essential functions of the job
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Duties: 

  • Supervises the Intern Training Program at assigned location
  • Provides supervision to interns on a routine and frequent basis, specifically through the lens of a recovery orientation, to ensure high quality, effective and efficient services as well as accurate and timely documentation.
  • Demonstrates awareness, support and appreciation for cultural and diversity issues
  • Selects, trains, and develops a diverse group of interns who possess a wide range of abilities and professional competencies to deliver effective service to customers
  • Leads regular intern group supervision meetings to promote team work,  provide didactic and experiential training, promote communication and provide professional development training
  • Establishes and clarifies expectations, provides on-going coaching, individual and group clinical supervision and feedback Manages performance concerns as applicable under the direction of the program manager

 





Skills/Requirements

Minimal Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work plus 1-2 year internship or relevant PhD or PsyD required
  • At least 3 – 7 years’ relevant experience
  • Licensed PhD or PsyD or Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW) required
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Experience working with mentally ill population in outpatient and/or other settings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced skills in training and supervising interns who provide services to adults, families and children in a community clinic.
  • Ability to provide direct feedback and complete evaluations of intern performance
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies with which interns may be required to interact on behalf of clients 
  • Advanced skills in mental health diagnosis and treatment specific to adults, families and children
  • Up-to-date working knowledge of licensing, regulatory or contractual requirements.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to lead change in a positive, proactive and collaborative way
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based practices, CBT, DBT, MI, and SFBT
  • Advanced computer skills including use of electronic health record and MS Office products and the ability to learn new tools as needed
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Bicultural/Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals
  • Must be competent in working with people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Ability to work some evenings, to accommodate client services
