Job Description

Job Description:                                 MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST, CHEMISTRY (I, II, III)

Includes Rotating weekends & holidays

Department:                                         Laboratory

 

Responsible To:                                   Chemistry Lead Tech/Chemistry Supervisor

 

Education/Experience:                       Assoc. of Arts with MLT training and certification or

                                                                Baccalaureate of Science in Medical Technology or BS plus laboratory

                                                                training certificate

 

License/Certification:                         Florida HRS Technologist license or eligibility for license.

 

Physical Requirement:                       Requires constant walking and standing, frequent stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing and mental/visual strain.  Occasional heavy work (exerting 50-100lbs of force up to 1/3 of the time); frequently exerting moderate force (21-50lbs of force up to 2/3 of the time); and constantly exerting force (10-20lbs of force) to move objects and patients.

 

Environmental Conditions:               Primarily works inside (99% of time) but may experience the following

hazards: constant exposure to biological (particularly blood), chemicals, needles and other sharps. 

 

Occupational Exposure:                    Category I = Job involves tasks or procedures that have

exposure to blood and potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.





Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Accurately processes and performs testing in a safe manner on blood and other specimens for all chemistry orders.
  2. Accurately enters results on blood and specimens in computer so results are available as requested.
  3. Calls panic value as indicated.  Calls or faxes as requested.
  4. Accurately performs and documents daily QC for all testing and makes decisions to accept values or troubleshoot the procedure before results are released.  Documents corrective action.
  5. Routinely performs and documents instrument preventative maintenance according to schedule of either daily or periodically.
  6. Assists in troubleshooting instruments or other problems when necessary.
  7. Notifies the Lead Technologist or Supervisor for reorder of supplies.
  8. Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Lead Tech.
