Job Description:                                 MAMMOGRAPHY COORDINATOR

 

Department:                                         Radiology

 

Responsible To:                                   Director of Radiology

 

License:                                                 A.R.R.T.(R ) AND (M) State of Florida H.R.S.

 

Education/Training:                            High School Graduate or equivalent; completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in AMA approved school qualifying for registry as American Registered Radiologic Technologist.  Fifteen (15) hours of C.E.U. every 24 months specific to Mammography.  BLS required.

 

Experience:                                           Two or more years of Mammography experience/with some supervisory preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:                      Ability to see, hear and communicate well with patients; standing for extended periods of time; good physical condition to permit lifting, pushing, pulling patients and equipment for entire shift.

 

Environmental Conditions:               Works indoors; possible exposure to radiation.

 

Occupational Exposure:                    Category I = Job involves tasks or procedures that have exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.

 





Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinates scheduling of staff with Radiology Supervisor.  Assists with screening of applicants for Mammography Section.  Routinely assists with performance reviews; maintains records of attendance and tardiness.
  2. Makes recommendations regarding equipment maintenance; maintains records of equipment maintenance and P.M. schedules.  Assures compliance with ACR, MQSA, and HRS standards.
  3. Accurately performs radiological exams to department standards including technique, positioning, protocols and administration of contrast materials.  Prepares consent forms and other demographic data for patients receiving treatment.  Assures quality of films presented to radiologist for interpretation and consults with doctor to obtain optimum scan.  Assures safety of patient including pregnancy identification and shielding documentation; reviews safety questionnaire prior to scanning patient.  Explains procedure to patient after first introducing self and gives post procedure instructions (i.e. breast self-exam).
  4. Keeps an organized and clean work area and reports needed repairs to appropriate entity.  Transports patients to and from treatment area assisting them both on and off the table and while positioning properly for studies.
  5. Demonstrates ability to perform other radiographic/CT procedures as necessary.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served (adolescent, adult, geriatric).  Works with departmental and hospital wide QA/QI program.
  6. Coordinates the selection and use of supplies, minor equipment, X-rays, reports and files between departmental units as needed.  Coordinates both in and out patient studies and assures that procedures are billed properly.
  7. Prepares contrast material, verifies physician order, and injects patients for I.V. procedures using proper sterile technique.  Uses table pads, sheets, side rails/locks, to assure patient comfort and safety.  Accurately utilizes initial side markers.  Performs phantom films regularly.
  8. Assists with biopsy localization, demonstrates responsibility for biopsy specimen, and correlates biopsy report to mammo report.
  9. Speaks to community groups regarding mammography and promotes self-examination.
  10. Performs other job related duties as assigned by Director.
