Job Description

The Board of Public Utilities is accepting applications for the full time position of Staff Account I. 

Benefits include vacation, sick leave, KPERS retirement and health insurance. A bachelor's degree in accounting or business and a minimum of 1 year experience in accounting is preferred.

All employees of the BPU are required to live within a designated residency limit of  McPherson.

STAFF ACCOUNTANT I

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business preferred.
  • A minimum of 1-year experience in accounting preferred.

 

Essential Functions

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Capable of completing work accurately, and in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Must maintain confidential information
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to use all billing/financial software and computer equipment
  • Assists Information Systems and Customer Service Departments with daily functions and special projects as requested
  • Backup Information System Specialist I and II position as needed
  • Proficient in all aspects of accounts payable, meter reading and billing
  • Knowledge of accounting principles
  • Ability to prepare reports as required for Comptroller, or other departments as requested
  • Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations including bank reconciliations
  • Prepare ledger entries based on sub-ledger reconciliation
  • Assist Comptroller in day to day, monthly and year-end operations
  • Assist in the preparation of various financial reports such as financial statements and capital budget performance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
