Job Description

Overview:

BBYO is the leading pluralistic, Jewish teen movement and has been providing exceptional leadership programs and identity enrichment experiences for 90 years. We offer year-round activities in hundreds of local communities and inspiring world-wide travel experiences enabling teens to explore areas of leadership, service, civic engagement, Israel education and Jewish values.

Position Summary:

The Director of Development will develop and execute strategies aimed at engaging communities throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

He/she will work within BBYO’s Friends and Alumni Network (FAN) system to engage alumni, parents and community members in supporting and advocating for BBYO. He/she will fundraise, develop volunteer leaders, and create strategic partnerships in his/her communities. This person will be part of a cross-country development team that is responsible for engaging external stakeholders in BBYO’s work in creative and innovative ways. Travel is required.

Responsibilities include:

Development

·        Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes prospecting, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective and current donors

·        Meet fundraising goals in assigned regions

·        Strategize with, motivate and support the local adult lay leadership FAN committees  in the implementation of fundraising efforts

·        Increase number of donors and prospects in your regions

·        Implement community engagement activities including but not limited to e-solicitations, phone-a-thons and direct mailings

·        Plan fundraising and stewardship events such as parlor meetings, adult stakeholder events

·        Manage grants and relationships with local foundations and Federations, as necessary

 

Communications

·        Oversee all and write select communications sent to non-teen stakeholders

·        Work closely with the Development and Marketing & Communications Departments to implement on- and offline marketing initiatives to support community building efforts

·        Increase visibility of BBYO’s brand

·        Build strategic funding  alliances to elevate the Jewish teen agenda and BBYO’s presence

·        Work closely with the professional team to gain knowledge of the ongoing activity of the program

 

Qualifications:

·        1-3+ years of experience in development for a non-profit organization or political campaign (can include volunteer experience and internships)

·        Strong volunteer management skills

·        Excellent public speaking skills

·        Exceptional verbal, written and proofreading skills

·        Very motivated, creative and willing to take risks; entrepreneurial in spirit

·        Strong listening skills, ability to work with different constituents and to be flexible is required

·        Ability to hold oneself accountable and work without regular face-to-face supervision

·        Prior success developing and implementing fundraising strategies, including event planning experience

·        Experience with a customer relationship management tool is welcomed, but not required
