Job Description

The Light Brigade, a division of AFL, is the world’s leading fiber optic training company having trained over 45,000 students in its public and customized classes. The curriculum covers the entire spectrum of fiber optics from basic theory and design to maintenance and testing, through advanced topics such as FTTx, DWDM, SONET, PMD/CD, and fiber-optic video transmission. Each year, the Light Brigade offers over 160 training courses. The Light Brigade also produces professional quality educational DVDs.  The company is headquartered in Tukwila, WA.  

The Light Brigade is seeking a full time Training and Content Manager to be based in Tukwila, WA.  The position will manage the Instruction and Technician staff – including all contract instructors.  The will assure staffing is adequate, regular internal training is completed effectively and instructors have all the knowledge, skills and tools required to provide the best training to our customers.   They will also be able to fill in as an instructor as well and provide fiber optic course content development for standard course updates, new courses and customized classes.  In addition, the manager will manage content development projects assigned to instructors. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day to day management/supervision of the training staff
  • Update and implement onboarding and training of all instructors and class technicians
  • Manage the department budget
  • Write/edit course content to create custom courses and new courses relating to fiber optic training
  • Manage the implementation of course delivery/structure changed as required
  • Stay current with fiber optic technologies and best practices for field work




Skills/Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field
  • Minimum 10 years in the fiber optics industry
  • Instructional design experience is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years in a management role
  • Deep knowledge of fiber optic industry
  • Training skills and experience with course/technical content development
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
