Job Description

Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy in Gary, IN is immediately seeking a Spanish Bilingual Paraprofessional for the 2015-2016 academic year. Candidates with remedial education experience will be highly considered as the target students have significant language difficulties. Please submit your application for consideration.

Essential Functions

 

The Academic Support Interventionist (ASI) is a critical instructional staff member at Gary Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy campus. The ASI will provide coverage for extended leaves from classrooms, provide small group intervention services, and serve in other capacities at the school as needed. In addition, the ASI will receive the same high quality professional development and coaching support as the other instructional staff. The Instructional Support Teacher is compensated at the same rate as other instructional staff and will have the following duties:

  • Providing other long-term coverage if it’s needed
  • Providing small group intervention services in reading and/or math
  • Covering one-day absences when substitute teachers cannot be secured
  • Providing operational support in the school such as breakfast duty, lunch duty, and bus duty
  • Working alongside classroom teachers to provide high quality instruction
  • Other tasks as assigned by the principal




Skills/Requirements

Education:  Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or passing of Parapro Exam

 

Experience, Knowledge & Skills:         

  • Prior experience working in a school setting supporting student instruction
  • Must have current teacher certification and Highly Qualified designation under No Child Left Behind
  • Strong desire to work within an innovative, urban educational program
  • Understanding of the basic principles of explicit instruction and student engagement
  • Mastery of content knowledge in assigned area (s) of instruction as demonstrated by state exam
  • Knowledge of assigned subject and current practices
  • Knowledge of school policy; knowledge of theory and practice of student learning styles
  • Proven track record of raising student achievement scores
  • Ability to turn best practices into high quality, goal-driven  results
  • Highly effective writing, oral and interpersonal skills to communicate with a varied audience
  • Data managements tools, organizational tools, computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook)
