We are currently seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join our Richmond, Virginia office location.

SUMMARY

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving revenue for Timmons Group through business to business sales of Timmons Group services to a myriad of current and prospective clients.  This position will support all group leaders and individuals working to grow practices in Private Land Development as well as the corporate marketing division.

The Business Development Manager is responsible for the identification, sourcing, and evaluation of prospective clients. This position is also responsible for developing relationships with qualified businesses through cold calling, market research and representing Timmons Group at organized functions.  The key responsibility of the Business Development Manager’s position is to identify opportunities, establish marketing approaches and develop alliance and partnership strategies for Timmons Group services. The position will also play a key role in defining service sector target markets, establishing marketing and business development processes, as well as proposal preparation.

The Business Development Manager is responsible for seeking out and developing clients who have a need for Timmons Group’s services. This effort will involve working with existing clients as well as new clients.

This position requires a very detailed oriented, well organized, communicator who has demonstrated and proven business development skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Sales and Marketing

  • Assist with the design of marketing strategies for acquiring new business
  • Consistently identify new sources of business
  • Design methods for initiating client research calls and maintaining contact
  • Develop, implement, and monitor contact management process
  • Establish techniques to use for screening and classifying prospects
  • Schedule/ conduct face-to-face meetings with current and prospective clients each week
  • Focus the sales effort around identifying and fulfilling clients’ current and future needs
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and track record in achieving Timmons Group’s  sales and marketing objectives
  • Meet assigned activity and revenue targets on a monthly basis

Client Development

  • Inspire clients with enthusiasm, positive energy, drive and motivation to envision their design and meet their needs
  • Identify, cultivate and maintain prospects/clients and establish long-term mutually beneficial relationships
  • Protect Timmons Group’s values and enhance reputation
  • Act as a Client Manager, resulting in repeat sales and an outstanding level of customer satisfaction
  • Work effectively with all levels of corporate decision makers/influencing parties
  • Initiate, follow up, and maintain contact with current and past clients to track client satisfaction and initiate corrective action, if needed
  • Initiate and maintain ongoing contact with prospective clients to build a professional relationship and project opportunities

Marketing Research/Strategic Planning

  • Research and analyze marketing and revenue growth opportunities using traditional means and innovative means
  • Develop business development strategies, manage the pursuit process and facilitate the proposal development process
  • Develop sales strategies, techniques and tactics based on client feedback and market environment
  • Identify trendsetter ideas
  • Evaluate potential teaming arrangements
  • Follow trends in market sectors and provide marketing support to North Carolina sector/group leaders
  • Perform competitor analysis and intelligence research
  • Work with director of marketing to define brand and positioning in market place
  • Support overall company marketing endeavors and corporate goals

Information, Resource, and Organizational Management

  • Work with a team (Director of Marketing, Sector Leaders, Project Managers, etc.) to deliver optimal solutions to clients
  • Provide marketing support for project close out/follow-up/documentation
  • Assist with the development of marketing collateral for North Carolina projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marketing or Communications and/or minimum of 5 years work-related experience.
  • Ability to build personal relationships with prospects and clients.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate and express the value proposition of Timmons Group’s products and services.
  • Ability to manage multiple leads and respond in a timely manner to incoming prospects.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as organizational skills
  • Ability to support the marketing department with technical proposal writing, and collateral development
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and employees of the firm.
