Job Description

The cashier / dining room attendant for managing the proper transaction of food sales, dining room access and customer service for a diverse high volume food service program.  This position is primarily responsible for pre-service dining room set up, cash handling, buffet labeling, transporting supplies & equipment and an assigned location on campus.

This position follows the academic year and is typically scheduled between 30 and 40 hours per week from end of August through mid-May.  This position is typically not scheduled during the Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring or Summer break periods.

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:
Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision and at times problem solve for the best solution.
Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
Coordinate with co-workers to ensure customers feel important and appreciated while exceeding their food, service and sanitation expectations.
Serve customers in an efficient and friendly manner and resolve customer concerns.
Notify manager of all food quality issues, safety and customer concerns.
Follow Great Expectations operational standards.
Comply with all sanitation, food and workplace safety requirements and initiatives.
Set up your station or work area on time for service.
Maintain your station or work area in a clean & organized manner.

MAJOR DUTIES/FUNCTIONS/TASKS:
Follows all Bon Appétit cash handling standards.
Monitors and maintains retail and display items, beverages, coffee, and condiment area.
Ensures that all food displays are meeting the pre established Great Expectations display standards.
Greets customers, smiles, process sales and interacts with customers in a manner to ensure customer satisfaction.
Keeps cashier area clean, utilizing proper cleaning products and sanitation standards.
Refills & maintains food displays.
Counts, verifies, and reconciles daily sales.
Is courteous and helpful to all customer requests, excercises independent jusdgement and seeks assistance from management or supervisors as needed.
Cleans and packs unused food dishes, utensils and equipment for removal to appropriate locations, handles trash and waste properly per unit standards
Cleans tables and chairs, as assigned, before, during, and after meal service. 
Demonstrates a complete understanding of menu items and explains same to customers accurately
Ensures that all necessary food items have identifiers or menus, displayed in a clean and consistent manner
Interact with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly and service oriented manner
Keeps display equipment, buffets and tables  clean and free of debris during meal service as assigned
Represents company in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner is all customer and employee interactions
Set up dining room as well as food, beverage and service items according to pre established Great Expectations standards.
Performs simple café duties as assigned.
Works special catering or other campus events as assigned.
Washes & maintains salt & pepper shakers and other serviceware as assigned.

Must be a high school graduate over 18 years old.
Able to pass a criminal background check before starting employment. 
Ability to use time keeping system to properly record time worked for payroll processing.
Ability to follow instructions from multiple managers, chefs, and supervisors.
Ability to work in a group/team and function efficiently.
Posses the ability to meet Bon Appétit unit specific uniform standards for this position.
Ability to interact with diverse and high volume customer base in a friendly and efficient manner.
Ability to answer basic customer questions regarding unit operations and direct other questions to appropriate parties.
Demonstrate ownership of designated station or work area to include: production, set-up, service and break-down.

FOOD & WORKPLACE SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to follow all Bon Appétit Health & safety standards, including:
Ability to wear a cut resistance glove whenever using a sharp or potentially sharp tool or instrument.
Use required personal protective safety equipment’s per Bon Appétit standards.
Report all minor and major safety incidents. 
Participate in daily safety meeting discussions.

Talk and hear.  Taste and smell.
Stand and walk for extended periods of time (2 – 4 hours).

Repetitive motion of reaching, using hands to manipulate, handle or feel small items. 
Frequently lift, carry and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to withstand hot kitchen temperatures generated by ovens, grills & fryers.
Twist and bend while standing.
Occasionally required to climb stairs, sit, climb or balance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, understand and speak basic English to perform essential functions of the job.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
Ability to write simple correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, students and other employees of the organization.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Maintain a valid Washington State Food Worker Card

Washington State Liquor Control Board permit desirable but not required.

AUTHORITY
This position does not directly supervise anyone but is responsible for working in a team and completing task in a group setting.
