The Neuroscience Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a professional with scientific, clinical and neuroscience therapeutic area expertise responsible for field-based medical and scientific initiatives that support Ipsen marketed and pipeline products. This is a field based position covering an assigned territory. The Neuroscience MSL develops and maintains professional relationships with internal and external customers (e.g., Key Opinion Leaders {KOLs}, Healthcare Professionals, and Formulary Decision Makers) to provide comprehensive medical and scientific support to Medical Affairs, Clinical Development and Ipsen strategic initiatives.  This position facilitates information, education, and research activities for physicians and ancillary healthcare professionals regarding current and future therapies in development or commercialized by Ipsen. The Neuroscience MSL works closely with other Ipsen personnel to ensure scientific and technical needs of Medical Affairs, Clinical Development and commercial colleagues are identified and met.  He/she is responsible for maintaining monthly expenses assigned budget parameters.  She/he is responsible for accurate and timely documentation of above activities.

The Mid-Atlantic territory includes NJ, DE, MD, VA, NC and SC.  

Essential duties & responsibilities:
• Identify and develop relationships with national, regional, local and emerging medical and scientific Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic centers and researchers consistent with the strategy and objectives of Medical Affairs, Clinical Development and the Neuroscience area
• Act as a liaison for national, regional, local, and emerging KOLs, academic centers and researchers to align mutual interests, discuss research and medical information, and facilitate clinical research with Ipsen’s marketed and investigational products
• Engage in scientific exchange and education about current and emerging therapies with KOLs
• Develop and maintain scientific, clinical and therapeutic expertise in the areas of Neuroscience that include but are not limited to cervical dystonia and related neurological disorders, therapeutic uses of neuromodulators (botulinum neurotoxins)
• Develop and maintain complete Ipsen US Neuroscience product knowledge and stay up to date with the emerging science
• Identify therapeutically focused medical or scientific concepts that can be leveraged into product differentiation of neuromodulators
• Provide appropriate scientific, clinical, and educational support for internal and external customers
• Provide Ipsen’s Medical representation at continuing medical educational events, programs, medical meetings, round table sessions, advisory boards and conventions
• Coordinate scientific activities within Medical Affairs and Clinical Development
• Provide clinical support and presentations for national or regional managed care accounts and organizations
• Support commercial operations by participating in KOL Speaker Training and Internal Stakeholder Training (e.g., field sales)
• Work with KOLs and assist as needed in supporting investigator-initiated clinical trials
• Partner with Medical Affairs and Drug Information Services to ensure accurate delivery of medical and scientific messages, as needed
• Lead/participate on special project teams as necessary

 





Skills/Requirements

Core Competencies / Knowledge & Skill Requirements
• Knowledge of customer segments and market dynamics within Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
• Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with cross functional teams
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain credible and scientific relationships with KOLs in Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
• Knowledge of PhRMA, OIG and other guidelines relating to compliant medical communications


Education, Experience & Training Required
• Minimum 5 years MSL experience; preferably with expertise in neuromodulators (botulinum neurotoxins), CNS, Neurology and/or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and minimum 4 years post professional degree practice or relevant transferrable experience (e.g., clinical practice, academic research, regulatory/scientific)
• PhD, PharmD, MD, DO or other recognized doctorate level education with supporting applicable health science background is strongly preferred

• Internal: Cross-functional Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team members including field-based counterparts and internal stakeholders
• External: Key Opinion Leaders, payers, formulary decision makers, other healthcare providers and vendors, as appropriate

Essential Functions – Physical Position Requirements: Machines and/or Equipment Used
-PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
-Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, fax machine, etc.)
-Ability to work on a computer up to 7 hours a day
-Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk
-Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment
-Close vision required for computer usage
 

Working Conditions
Standard office environment without unpleasant or hazardous conditions.  Work entails typical physical demands involved in office work.
