Shipping Point Program

  1. PROGRAM/POSITION IDENTIFICATION

The Cooperative Agricultural Support Services (CASS) is a Joint Powers Authority that assists in protecting and supporting California's agricultural industry and the consumers of its products by providing services and staff who fairly, impartially, and dependably carry out their work.

  1. ESSENTIAL AND NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions:

Under the direction, as well as operating within established guidelines and procedures, the incumbent in this position will assist in the managing of the El Centro district while supervising an inspection and certification program.  Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Manage District Field Activities - 80%
  • Determine, through contact with customers, staffing needs necessary to meet industry requests for service.
  • Work with CASS Human Resources Director or his designee to acquire and maintain a suitable staff to meet program needs.
  • Provide necessary technical training, either directly or through available resources.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide documentation to the CASS Human Resources Director for regular performance appraisal and / or disciplinary action.

2.  Manage District Office Activities - 10%

  • Review, and correct as necessary, field notes, certificates, Inspectors Daily Reports and any other inspection documents prepared by staff.
  • Forward accurate documents in a timely manner for processing.
  • Maintain district customer cash accounts.
  • Ensure an adequate level of field and office supplies.
  1. Training - 5%
  • Participate in job-related training to enhance skills.
  1. Miscellaneous Program Support - 5%
  • Attend Shipping Point and CASS management meetings.
  • Attend industry meetings, as directed, to represent the Shipping Point and CASS programs.

Skills/Requirements

  1. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties for the job are performed inside or outside of buildings. Weather, temperature, lighting and noise levels may constantly vary. Terrain may vary from smooth and stable to irregular and unstable. The incumbent may regularly work with or around machinery or motorized equipment, work in a noisy environment and be exposed to dust, pollen, moisture and temperature extremes. Driving a vehicle, as well as entering and exiting the vehicle numerous times throughout the workday, is generally required.

  1. INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent in this position must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with industry; work well under pressure; and, work cooperatively with other staff members in completing designated work and meeting required deadlines and have normal color vision.

  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent in this position will be required, with or without reasonable accommodation, to stand and walk constantly, lift up to 20 pounds on a very frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis; use repetitive arm and wrist motions; bend, stoop, twist, reach; and, maintain visual acuity along with possessing normal color vision.
