Job Description

The Registered Dietitian position is expected to be the liaison between students and managers and will oversee special diets and/or medical accommodations.  The position will require building communication with managers, supervisors and food service employees. This may include but not be limited to providing a special menu for students. This position will also work closely with the managers to ensure the company’s well-being commitments are upheld to include menu requirements, training, and documentation as well as support any campus-specific wellness programs. Where applicable, this position will also monitor the accuracy of specific nutritional programs such as Well-Being and/or In Health programs.  Maintain current knowledge of nutrition and sustainability issues related to the food industry. 

MAJOR DUTIES/FUNCTIONS/TASKS:
Student Support

  • Nutrition Assessments:  The Registered Dietitian will be available to meet with students individually to assess the diet and health-related lifestyle of registered students who have requested or have been referred for an assessment. Visits will be limited to five visits per school year.
  • Special Diet Requests:  The Registered Dietitian will work with Bon Appetit and college protocols to support students with special diet needs and/or medical accommodations.
  • This position will provide individual recommendations based on current nutritional science.

Supervision and Staff Development

  • Menus - works with café managers and supervisors to ensure that foods are identified properly in accordance with Bon Appétit protocols.
  • Develops and implements training to support food allergy and wellness protocols onsite for management and hourly teams.
  • Works with staff to implement a robust Food for Your Well-Being program.
  • Works with the Executive Chef to ensure that all meals are nutritionally balanced, varied and appealing to the senses and meet Bon Appétit’s well-being commitments.
  • The Registered Dietitian and Executive Chef will create a special events calendar for each calendar year.  This calendar will have input from the account managers and supervisors. 

Program Development and Implementation

  • The Registered Dietitian will attend and present at designated campus events (ex. freshman orientation).
  • Provide nutrition-related workshops for campus student, faculty and/or staff groups, upon request.
  • Applies current, science-based knowledge of nutrition to all programs.
  • Understands and can apply knowledge of nutrient content analysis when using analysis software.
  • For accounts running the “ENI” (enhanced nutrition information) program  – Registered Dietitian will be involved in supporting all critical steps in ENI including recipe testing/entry/approvals, accurate entry into café manager and overall integrity of the program. Conducts designated menus reviews in specified timeframes.
  • For accounts running the “In Health” program – Registered Dietitian will be involved in supporting all critical steps in In Health including training, weekly menu reviews, and on-going quality assurance.
  • Attends monthly corporate nutrition meetings. Supports and contributes to corporate nutrition and wellness programming.
     

Customer Service

  • Represents the company in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner in all customer and employee interactions
  • Greets customers courteously and interacts with customers in a manner to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Interacts with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly and service oriented manner
  • Reviews and responds to all customer comments within 24 hours of submission.
  • Relays relevant comments from customers directly to the management team.
  • Ensures that the answering of the office phone is done timely and correctly, ensuring that all vendors, guests, clients and staff are treated with care and respect.
  • Communicates accurately, honestly, and in a timely manner with clients, vendors, managers and Bon Appétit departments such as the accounting department.
  • Attends internal staff meetings.  

ACCOUNT SPECIFIC DUTIES (Duke):

  • The Registered Dietitian will coordinate all programming to support nutrition and wellness initiatives as designated by the Duke dietitians.
  • Attend DUSDAC meetings as requested.
  • Available to travel as requested (up to 25% time).

OVER ALL MANAGEMENT

  • Teaches and follows the BAMCO philosophy and culture of friendly and attentive service, respectful treatment of vendors, customers and staff.
  • Supports leadership decisions by promoting teamwork.
  • Performs all duties assigned by the General Manager.
  • Adheres to all corporate and client policies and procedures. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General  Hospitality knowledge and interest in sustainability and sustainable food practices
  • Minimum of three (3) years general Dietitian / Nutritional work. R.D. L.D. (where applicable). Masters level preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nutrient analysis software and ability to learn/master internal Webtrition software. 
  • Able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the work place.
  • Ability to interact with diverse and high volume customer base in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • The ability to manage simultaneous events and a large staff in a diverse environment with focus on client and customer services is essential to success in this role.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word and Power Point. Computer data input skills. 
  • Proficient with word processing and spread sheet applications.
  • Ability to write professional and efficient emails to clients and customers.
  • Possess the ability to meet Bon Appétit unit specific uniform standards for this position. 
  • Ability to work at times with minimal supervision, and accomplish tasks without direct instruction, and problem solve for the best solutions.

  • Push and Pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend elaborate instructions, event requests, correspondence, and memos written in English 
  • Ability to write simple professional correspondence, through email. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and clients.
  • Ability to lead meetings and trainings with employees and other members of the company and cover basic register, programing, accounting, and cash handling topics.
