Job Description

Octo Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Data Architect with a broad level of IT experience including expertise in enterprise data architecture, data warehousing, and developing conceptual, logical & physical data models.  Qualified candidates must have experience with Extensible Markup Language (XML), Interoperability Frameworks, Data Standards, and have proven experience in using services for integration of data from heterogeneous services.   They should possess good knowledge of data processing function of extract-transform-load (ETL) using an automated tool.

The Senior Data Architect will analyze business processes and design solutions through data modeling, process modeling, and event modeling techniques.  They may analyze, design, and execute large database migrations, including consolidation of multiple databases.

Skills/Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a data architect or in the architecture and design of complex business applications dealing with critical data.
  • 3+ years of experience building conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • 3+ years of experience working with ETL tools.
  • Must be able to explain technical concepts to technical (Developers, other Architects, etc.) and non-technical audience (Directors, CTOs, CIOs, etc.)
  • Extensive experience in requirements gathering, use case analysis, architecture and design patterns.
  • Strong skills working with Extensible Markup Language (XML).
  • Strong understanding of Object Oriented concepts and UML.
  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies and trends such as Cloud Computing, Mobile, Big Data, techniques for working with unstructured data, etc., and demonstrated ability to apply the concepts to solve business problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong consulting, client management and business development skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Organized, motivated and demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision to achieve desired objectives.
  • Previous work experience, preferably in a data capacity, in the domain of international development, global development, international banking, or humanitarian aid such as organizations including: USAID, IMF, World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Red Cross, World Food Programme.
  • Experience leading a group of data architects is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated experience building star schemas, facts to dimensions matrices, and working with large enterprise data warehousing, reporting, and Business Intelligence (BI) projects.
  • Experience working with security teams and implementing best practices for data security.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
