As  an Assistant General Counsel (Product and Commercial Transactions) at GoDaddy, you will negotiate, draft and review contracts to which GoDaddy and its related entities are a party, and provide legal advice to all departments within the organization regarding a wide range of commercial and transactional matters.  This person must have knowledge of other common transactional agreements, including NDAs, Terms of Service, various services agreements, independent contractor agreements, etc.

In this role, you will:

  • Negotiate, draft, and review third party contracts to be entered into by GoDaddy and related entities.  
  • Develop, update and provide ongoing oversight of the company’s consumer privacy, data retention and data breach policies and procedures.
  • Identify and resolve legal and business issues related to new and existing products and contracts.
  • Be responsible for oversight & implementation of various ICANN & registry contracts.
  • Provide legal guidance related to third party contests and sweepstakes.  Prepare all necessary rules, releases and state registrations.
  • Provide legal guidance to company regarding a wide range of matters.
  • Draft, review, maintain and provide training on internal policies related to GoDaddy’s operations.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.

Do you have what it takes?

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with excellent academic qualifications required; top-tier law school, law review and/or moot court team experience strongly preferred.
  • Valid & current license to practice law in Arizona, California, New York or Washington, DC preferred.
  • At least 6-10 years of prior legal experience, with a focus on internet or high tech agreements and related legal issues, such as online privacy, online advertising and communications, and electronic data retention and security.  In-house experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with internet related contracts is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience with, negotiating, drafting and revising a wide range of agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of GoDaddy products and services is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of internet technology.
  • Familiarity with legal issues relating to web hosting providers and ISPs, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
  • Familiarity with legal and policy issues affecting the Registrar industry (including knowledge of major ICANN issues).
  • Extensive knowledge of state, federal and international laws and regulations relating to privacy, data retention and security, and e-commerce.  Strong familiarity with the EU privacy and data retention directives and the U.S. Department of Commerce EU Safe Harbor program.
  • General understanding of corporate governance and compliance issues. General understanding of CAN-SPAM, Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills (oral and written); ability to see the "big picture" and yet be highly organized and efficient with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to interact with employees at all levels, poise and presence to interact with senior management, and the ability to be collaborative, adaptive, and resourceful.
  • Highly energetic, outgoing, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Highly developed business acumen to understand our business and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in various settings.
  • Able to handle sensitive situations tactfully yet firmly, to be assertive without being adversarial, and to take unpopular positions when necessary while maintaining trust and credibility.
  • Ability to implement and deliver on aggressive timelines.
  • Ability to determine the best course of action based on extremely complex issues in a time-pressured environment.
  • Ability to supervise and direct the work of others
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • An adaptable, flexible attitude.
