Job Description

We provide an innovative training model that imparts skills and knowledge in investing (real estate and financial instruments), entrepreneurship and personal finance.

The paralegal will complete paralegal related assignments, which requires prior training in ethics, legal research, and substantive law. Provide administrative assistance to Corporate Counsel, Regulatory Affairs Paralegal, Compliance Manager – Live Events on a regular basis. Complete delegated tasks.

 

 

Skills/Requirements

  • Thoroughly research matters (student-related or other) upon receipt of an incoming complaint and/or request to produce/request for interrogatories. Complete additional research as requested.
  • Draft correspondence/pleadings/research to outside counsel, opposing counsel, clerk of courts, and students, as needed. 
  • Assist in securing Outside Counsel for attendance at hearings.
  • Provide all relevant documentation to counsel as needed and requested.
  • Ensure all Check Requests for settlements/court costs are created, approved, and submitted. Checks should then be returned to legal department and forwarded to the appropriate party in a timely fashion.
  • File, organize, and coordinate all litigation files. 
  • Create litigation chart and update it as new cases are received and update legal fees on a monthly basis.
  • Complete projects such as: domain name searches, mail merges, power point presentation, mass production in response to subpoenas.
  • Thoroughly research student file upon receipt of an incoming complaint and/or request to produce/request for interrogatories. Complete additional research as requested.
  • Draft correspondence/responses to outside counsel, opposing counsel, clerk of courts, and students, as needed. 
  • File, organize, and coordinate all student legal complaint files. 
  • Maintain student complaint matrix.
  • Provide quarterly summary and review of student complaints to management as part of compliance review program.
  • Complete projects such as: updates to template letter responses, resolutions guidelines revisions, program offering guidelines
  • Active member of the weekly Resolutions Committee
  • Assist Resolutions members with drafting responses to student letters
  • Review all BBB complaints and corresponding responses for compliance and issue-spotting
  • Relay any operational and compliance issues seen in committee to the appropriate department/personnel for follow-up.
  • Track and report weekly to management on BBB status and legal complaint issues.
  • Ensure all legal invoices and expenses are approved and submitted to accounting in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Ensure all legal invoices and expenses are paid in a timely manner and forwarded to the appropriate party.
  • File, organize, and coordinate all legal invoices and expenses.
  • Track each invoice by month, matter, firm and billing month. Provide breakdowns and metrics as requested and needed for budgets and tracking.
  • High School Diploma, plus one or both of the following:
  1. Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal/Legal Studies, preferred (15 hours of which must be substantive paralegal courses.)
  2. Successful completion of certification from one of the following: 1. NFPA (Registered Paralegal) 2. NALA (Certified Paralegal) 3. NALS (Professional Paralegal). Once obtained, certification must be maintained while employed with the company, unless a higher degree warrants separate licensing/certification. Additionally, all CLE’s required to maintain certification must be completed accordingly.

Additional requirements may be deemed necessary if mandated by The Florida Bar.
